Sgt. Donald (Donnie) Floyd Powers, 78, was born January 31, 1944 to John Clyde and Lizzie Ruth Powers in Lake Charles, Louisiana, but who spent his entire life in Texas, suddenly passed away peacefully in his home on September 4, 2022.
Donnie was a Sergeant in the Marine Corp and was fond of the saying “not as lean, not as mean, but still a Marine”! He used the skills and discipline he learned as a Marine to raise his family to be productive and respectful citizens. While in the Marines, he was a boxer in the featherweight class and was proud of serving his country.
As a Master Plumber for 50 years, he owned Powers Plumbing with his brother, Elton, and they served the BCS area. In his younger years, Donnie participated in things such as Bronc riding, dirt track racing, and was an avid fan of Nascar. He had the experience to drive one on his 60th birthday! His hobbies over the years included fishing (which he loved with a passion and passed this love on to his children), competitive archery (which he enjoyed with his son Coley), gardening, and just being outdoors.
Donnie was a loyal and wise Dad, husband, Grandpa, and friend, he was a very hard-working man and passed this work ethic down to his children. He was quick witted and could always be counted on to throw in a sarcastic word or two at just the right time.
In recent years, Donnie loved spending time at the “Ranch” with special friends he called family; Lili, Donny, Micah, Chris, and Shannon, playing dominoes, going to the river, and having a few cold beers.
Donnie is preceded in death by the love of his life, Linda Yerrington Powers, parents John Clyde Powers and Lizzie Ruth Smith Powers; brothers Elton Powers and Nathan Powers; and a niece, Melanie Powers, and two nephews, Lane Powers and Jonathon Powers. He was also preceded in death by his loyal companion for 16 years, his beautiful dog Rico.
Donnie is survived by three biological children; Ginger Powers Dalgleish (husband Tim) of Wilson, Michigan, Melinda Powers Brown (husband Mike), and Coley Paul Powers (spouse Chloe) of Bryan, Texas. He also put his heart and soul into raising Cindy Battles McCasland (husband Marlin), LeeAnn Dann, Rick Lynch and David Lynch of Bryan. He loved all his children very much! Also special to his heart was son-in-law Kenneth Dann of Bryan, Texas and nephew Nathan Powers (wife Kristy) of Laguna Park, Texas. Grandchildren include Anthony Battles of Bryan, Texas, Heather Dalgleish of Wilson, Michigan, Aaron Dodgen of Bryan and Dylan Dann (wife Katharina) of Frisco, Texas, Kayla Budd, Emilie Powers, Logan Brown, Charlize and Cade Powers of Bryan; and great grandson Isaac Parra of Bryan.
