David Francis Fleming

David Francis Fleming (‘75), age 70 of College Station, Texas, went to be with our Lord on February, 29, 2024.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 17, 1953, to Colonel Paul and Eva Fleming, he was a military brat and one of six boys. Dave settled in San Antonio, Texas in 1969. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Building Construction and went on to have an illustrious career in the construction industry. A beautiful and detailed tribute of his contribution to the industry was released by the Texas A&M University School of Architecture and can be found here

Dave and his wife of almost 49 years, Katherine Jane Hansell, met in 1973 in Port Aransas, Texas. They travelled the world together, built multiple homes, and raised two wonderful children. Dave was known as an avid sailor, taking many trips to Maine, sailing the coast with his brother Richard while solving the world’s problems and enjoying a glass of Jack Daniels. He was a teacher and mentor to many in the construction industry. A Distinguished Alumnus of the College of Architecture, he most recently returned to his Alma Mater as an Associate Professor of Construction Science. Teaching was a passion of Dave’s - his students and their success meant the world to him. He enjoyed helping his children with house projects and his Tuesdays at Book Club where friends embraced him and Katherine in their recent return to College Station.

He is preceded in death by his father, Colonel Paul Francis and mother Eva; brothers, Richard and Donald; and mother-in-law Mary Thornton.

Dave was a loyal husband, loving father and true friend and will be missed by all who had the joy of knowing him. The title Dave took the most pride in was being “Poppy” to his three grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Katherine; son and daughter-in-law Patrick (‘06) and Melissa Fleming (‘04) and granddaughter, Ava; daughter and son-in-law Molly (‘11) and Matt Way (‘11) and grandsons, Jack and Hayes; sister and brother-in-law Molly (‘91) and Tom Hardgrove and nephew and nieces, Jack (‘24), Mary Kate, and Hannah; brothers, James (‘72) Fleming and wife Linda, Philip Fleming and wife Lizette, Charles Fleming and sisters-in-law Joan Fleming and Deborah Fleming; and countless nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on March 21st, at the Pavilion at The Gardens at Texas A&M University from 3-5pm. All are welcome to come remember Dave and toast his legacy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the David F. Fleming ‘75 Endowed Memorial Aggie Ring Scholarship here as Dave took much pride in presenting Aggies their rings on Ring Day
