Charles G. Lopez Jr.

January 27, 1945 — April 3, 2024

Bryan

Charles G. Lopez Jr. was born on January 27, 1945, in Bryan, TX to Charles and Alice Lopez and passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 3, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.  He was born and raised in Bryan, TX and was the oldest of nine children. He played baseball with the city teams starting at age 12 and played until adulthood with the Lulac League.  Charles, or as he was known by many, Charlie married Yolanda Rosales Quintana, the love of his life, on June 9, 1963, and they had three children.  Since most of his family lived in Bryan, gatherings with extended family were a regular occurrence with the Lopezes where sometimes they were treated to Charlie’s delicious BBQ brisket.  Most mornings you would find Charlie at the kitchen table reading the Bryan Eagle and the Houston Chronicle.  At other times, he may have a good book or a Texas Monthly in hand.  Charlie had many close friends who would frequently stop by his home to sit in the backyard to visit for a while.  Charlie valued hard work and went to work for Bryco, Inc alongside his father soon after he and Yolanda were married. He remained at Bryco, or the companies that took them over, for more than 40 years before he retired.   During this time, Charlie worked as a cement truck driver and a heavy equipment operator.  He won state awards for Driver Safety even participating in the Truck Rodeo in Houston competing against other truck drivers.  He became a trainer for other drivers because of his respect for safety and concern for other drivers.

Charlie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Yolanda. Others that proceeded him in death are his parents Charles and Alice and sister, Helen Duron. He is survived by his children, daughter Annette Cortinas, husband Oscar; son Charles Lopez, III, wife Brenda; son Mark Lopez, wife Anjelica; grandchildren Megan Medina, husband TJ Medina; Maci Willeby, husband Kameron Willeby; Zachary Cortinas, fiancé Didi Carlomagno; Shelli Lopez and great grandchildren Aubree Medina, Isaac Cortinas and Lilian Cortinas; siblings Mary Jane Flores, husband Augustine; Melba Garza, husband Saleztino; Eva Montoya, husband Richard; Amelia Hodge, husband Travis; Robert Lopez, wife Betty; Veronica Boatman, and Josephine King, husband David and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Joe’s Peaceful Hearts and the nurses from Brazos Valley Hospice who lovingly and tirelessly cared for Charlie and his family.  We would also like to say thank you to many of Charlie’s friends who stopped by to show support and give him words of encouragement.  We would also like to thank Pastor Cisneros from First Baptist Church Bryan for the love he has shown to our Dad during this time.
