Bertha Monsivais

Bertha Monsivais, 81, of College Station, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 8, 2021. A visitation will be held at Hillier of College Station from 5-7 pm on Saturday, February 27, with a memory share to follow.

Bertha was born in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, on August 1, 1939, to her parents, Juan and Francisca Hernandez. She spent her childhood growing up in Allende, Mexico with her siblings, Anita, Melin, Ismelda. Bertha came from humble beginnings but it taught her how to appreciate the things she had, selflessness, and humility.

Bertha was a hard and honest worker. She was employed at Texas A&M University for 30 years as a cook, server, and cleaner. When fire fighters from all over the world came to Texas A&M for training, she served them food at the fire sights, enduring the heat of the summer and the fires. Bertha was a reliable and valuable employee. She was willing to work in all conditions and never complained.

Bertha met the love of her life, Nicolas, at a shoe stand he worked at in the town square. She would take her bosses shoes to his stand to be shined and after a while, he built up the courage to ask her on a date. After getting to know each other, they fell in love and married. They were together for over 60 years and had many children together.

In Bertha's free time she enjoyed gardening, shopping, and cooking. After retirement, she also enjoyed taking trips to Mexico at any opportunity.

The most important thing in Bertha's life was her family. If a family member was in need Bertha was always willing to give whatever she could, even if it meant she would go without. Her family will always remember her generosity, kindness, and the stories she told while cooking and sharing a special meal with family.

Bertha was a loving, selfless, and generous woman. She would do anything for the ones she loved most and never expected anything in return. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The memories of Bertha will be remembered by her husband, Nicolas Monsivais; children, Daniel Monsivais, Eduardo Monsivais, Francisco Monsivais, Bertha Alicia Monsivais, Jaime Monsivais, Rose Elena Monsivais; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bertha is reunited in Heaven with her parents Juan and Francisca Hernandez; and sister, Anita Canas-Hernandez.
