Ambrose Bernard Boubel, Jr.

December 2, 1933 — September 21, 2023

College Station

Ambrose ‘Brose’ Boubel was born in Eagle Pass, Texas December 2, 1933 to his parents Ambrose Bernard Boubel, Sr. and Hilda Staples Boubel, both who have predeceased him. His growing up years were spent at the family farm in Quemado, Texas with his mother and stepfather, Paul Knight. It was a meager beginning (post WWII) living on the land, building a life from scratch, until they were able to build a small house with used materials by chipping bricks and straightening nails.

Ambrose was called ‘Sonny’ by the family, probably because he was a junior. When Brose was to enter high school, his father who lived in Eagle Pass got him to live with him and his stepmother, Irene, so that he would not be riding the bus to school every day. He played high school football and was a life guard at the country club in the summer. Before graduation, it was suggested Brose should apply for West Point but one of his sisters suggested Texas A&M instead as it was much closer to home. There were three older sisters, all of whom have predeceased him: Elaine, Gloria, and Sue.

At Texas A&M, Brose studied and earned degrees in Petroleum Engineering and Geological Engineering, Class of 1955. His senior year he was Commanding Officer or CO of his A Armor Group and earned his commission in the United States Army. He served six months active duty, eight years in the reserves, and retired with the rank of Captain. Brose served as Class Agent for over 20 years and was particularly fond of helping give out Aggie rings from scholarship funds given by the Class of 1955.

Brose started his career in 1956 with Continental Oil Company, later known as Conoco, and worked for them until 1963 when he worked for his father-in-law, Ivan Frizzell, at Frizzell Pontiac running the insurance, finance, and credit departments. After a short stint in Boulder Colorado owning his own car dealership from 1969 to 1971, Brose returned to the oilfield in 1971 to work for Pennzoil in Corpus Christi Texas. He stayed with Pennzoil, moving several times, until his retirement as Vice President of Offshore Texas and Louisiana in January 1995.

Brose and Doreene moved first to Emerald Bay near Tyler Texas, then to College Station in 2005. Brose was an avid hunter and played and loved the game of golf.

Ambrose passed peacefully on September 21, 2023 at home with his wife, Doreene, by his side. He was a member of Christ Church and the Christian Collage Class who gave him great support and encouragement with their prayers, visits, phone calls, and cards.

Brose is survived by Doreene, his wife of 65 years; his children, Jeannine Smith, Paige Carlin, and Ben and Kandy Boubel; and grandchildren Gloria, Alex, Adam, Hannah, Blake, and Bennett.
