Albert LeRoy Hoermann

August 27, 1930 — October 11, 2023

Albert LeRoy Hoermann, a devoted and esteemed member of the Texas A&M Extension Service, passed away on October 11, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication. He was born on August 27, 1930 in San Antonio, TX to Lena Louise Emma Jarutowicz and Albert Richard Christian Hoermann. He grew up in Seguin, TX but life led him to Abilene, Baytown, Houston, Gatesville, Waco, College Station, Uvalde, Georgetown, Corpus Christi and Bryan, Texas; Angel Fire, New Mexico; and Wichita, Kansas.

LeRoy graduated from Seguin High School in 1947. He proudly served his country as a member of the Army Transportation Corps. From September 1951 to 1953, LeRoy devoted two years of active duty and an additional twenty-six years as part of the Army Reserves. These dedicated years culminated in his retirement as Lieutenant Colonel.

On January 3, 1953, LeRoy married the love of his life Wanda Jean Bizzell in Overton, Texas. They spent the next 59 years in love and faith.

LeRoy pursued higher education at Texas A&M University and in 1951, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Husbandry. He continued his studies at Texas A&M University, where he obtained a Master's degree in Physiology of Reproduction in 1969 and later earned a Ph.D. in Physiology of Reproduction in 1971.

LeRoy’s impressive career spanned several roles within the Texas A&M Extension Service. He worked as a County Agent in Taylor Co., Harris Co., Coryell Co., and McLennan Co. In addition to his county agent positions, LeRoy served as a COOP manager in Coryell Co. for two years. His dedication extended further as a Livestock Specialist and District Agent with the Texas A&M Extension Service for District 13.

Outside of work and service to his country, LeRoy had a passion for travel and was fortunate enough to explore seventy different countries. His desire to give back extended to volunteering at the hospital in Georgetown, TX, as well as dedicating his time to the Coastal Bend State Veteran's Cemetery.  He was also a member of the Lions club, Rotary club and Texas A&M club, as well as, an ordained elder and Deacon of the Presbyterian Church in the USA and a member of First Presbyterian Church Bryan, Texas.

LeRoy cherished his family dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Jean Bizzell Hoermann; parents, Albert Richard Christian Hoermann and Lena Louise Emma Jarutowicz; and his brothers Harvey Hoermann, Robert Hoermann, Sidney Hoermann, and Jesse Hoermann.

He is survived by his loving daughter Susanna (Larry) Van Horn of College Station, TX, and his son Lee Hoermann of Caldwell, TX; five beloved grandchildren, Keith (Melissa) Van Horn of Lawrence, KS, Denise Van Horn of Wichita, KS; Amy Van Horn of Huntsville, TX, Christian Hoermann of Richardson, TX, and Abby Hoermann of La Vergne, TN; four cherished great-grandchildren, Avery Van Horn, Claire Van Horn, Lawson Van Horn, and Benjamin Van Horn – all hailing from Lawrence, KS; his sister Doris Spellmann of San Marcos, TX; brother Arlon (Susan) Hoermann of Bedford, TX and brother Grady Hoermann of San Antonio, TX.
