Mrs. Kennedy was a member of First United Methodist Church for 91 years, active until the last few years of her life. She joined the church at the age of 12, when she, her dad and two brothers moved to Bryan from Navasota where she was born. She was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad Leonard Hagemeier and Ida Fuqua Hagemeier, 9 siblings, her beloved husband, Sam P. Kennedy, and a grandson, Keith David Engelbrecht.
She served her church in many capacities and will be remembered as a wonderful Sunday School teacher, teaching in the children’s, youth and adult divisions until the age of 95. She was a faithful member of the Neighborly Sunday School Class, serving as one of the early presidents. She was a charter member of St. Joseph Hospital’s Pink Ladies, a dedicated worker at Fannin School through VIPS and Help One Student To Succeed. She received the Volunteer of the Year award by Volunteers in Public Schools. She greatly enjoyed travel in the U.S. with her family and following her retirement from Ag. Communications, Texas A&M Extension Service, visited most of the United States, including Hawaii, Alaska, Israel, Greece, and Great Britain. She was a talented seamstress, creating many styles of clothing and costumes. Mrs. Kennedy is survived by her daughter and son in law Camille and Travis Engelbrecht of Bryan, grandson and his wife, Mark and Daniela Engelbrecht, and greatgrandchildren Connor Lloyd Engelbrecht, Kennedy Engelbrecht, Cole Engelbrecht, and Asher Bailly Engelbrecht, all of Plano.
The family is grateful to caregivers at St. Joseph Manor and Hospice Brazos Valley for their excellent care. Memorials, if desired, may be directed to the Permanent Endowment Fund of First Methodist Church of Bryan, Texas, or to Hospice Brazos Valley in Mrs. Kennedy’s name.
