Raymond H. Murray

June 15, 1925 — October 13, 2017

Raymond H. Murray

Raymond was born on June 15, 1925, to Ross and Bettie Murray in Bryan, TX. He was a lifetime resident of Bryan and College Station. Raymond attended school in the B.I.S.D. districts at Travis Elementary, Lamar Jr. High, and Stephen F. Austin High School.

Raymond started his working life with Western Union, delivering telegrams on a bicycle. This was in 1943, during WWII raging……the U.S. War Dept. sent many telegrams to families that stated “We regret to inform you that your son ------- ------ has been killed in action”. Raymond assumed all telegrams were extremely urgent, and he put the pedals to his bicycle. The management of Western Union named him “Speedy”. Later years, Raymond worked for TAMU as a security guard until retirement.

Raymond lived a very quiet and relaxed life enjoying feeding his animals and birds, and watching football. His greatest enjoyment was his collecting old movies and movie posters. His all-time favorite was Tex Ritter. Another one of his treasures was Aggie Sports, especially football. Raymond could hold his own with anybody on the date, time, location, all the rankings and statistics of the game. Raymond was a very moral man, never blowing his horn to anybody. Raymond accepted his Lord, Jesus Christ, as he was baptized in St. Paul Methodist Church, in Bryan, in 1954.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Bettie Murray, of Bryan, and sister-in-law Billye Murray, of College Station. He is survived by his brother Joel T. Murray of College Station, his sister Betty Perkins and husband Ernie of Richardson, Texas; three nephews, Tommy Murray and wife Audrey of College Station, Lynn Perkins and wife Pam of Farmersville, Texas, and Chandler Perkins and wife Babette of Bryan; one great-nephew Michael Perkins of Plano, Texas; and two great-nieces Macey Murray of Houston, and Melissa Perkins of Farmersville, Texas.

Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service, in remembrance of Raymond Murray, on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at 2:00 pm, at the Bryan City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Billy Chenault, Billy Sanders, Tommy Murray, Lynn Perkins, Chandler Perkins, and Michael Perkins.
