Delfina Muniz

Strong and ever selfless, our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Delfina Muniz passed into the arms of her Lord Jesus on Monday, February 20, 2017. She was 83 years old.
Born on July 12, 1933, in Monterrey, Mexico, Delfina was the daughter of Maximillano Sagrero and Maria Laura (Aguilar) Sagrero. Her father was a soldier who faught against Pancho Villa, while her mother was a notable cook and also a tailor. Delfina was the eldest of three daughters, including Esaura Sagrero Gonzales and Sara Franklin (both now deceased). As a child, she loved sitting in front of the silver screen, watching thrilling black and white epics at the cinema with her father. In 1946, at age five, Delfina immigrated to the United States with her mother.
Delfina’s life would change once again when she met Santiago Muniz; they married at the tender ages of 14 and 15, respectively, and their union lasted sixty years, until Santiago’s death in April 2006. Throughout her marriage, Delfina discovered her formidable strength in her roles as wife, mother (to seventeen children), and prayer warrior as she tended her family and home, and later, battled cancer successfully. It was through this miraculous, divine delivery from death—nearly forty years ago—that Delfina gained her relationship with God and made sure to nourish it during the years that followed. She was a devout, active member of Bryan United Pentecostal Church (and had also worshipped at Templo Philidelfia in California). From their mother, her children learned what it meant to be faithful to family and to the Lord, to serve with love and to sacrifice for the good of others. To them, Delfina never looked more radiant than when she stood in her kitchen in her favorite pink dress, surrounded by her favorite roses or tulips, calling her loved ones “Corazón” and telling them that they were the beat of her heart, her purpose in life.
Remembering Delfina best—and loving her memory most—are her seventeen children, including: Jayne Cerda and husband Ricardo (of Houston), Rachel Muniz (of Katy), Delfina Rosales and husband Andy (of Houston), Diana Ortiz and husband Frank (of California), Connie Tucker and husband Steve (of Georgia), Jimmy Muniz (of California), Joe Angel Muniz and wife Vira (of Tyler), Liz Albrecht and husband Michael (of Houston), Edward Muniz and wife Elizabeth (of Spring), Gilbert Muniz and wife Gina (of Georgia), Linda Pennison and husband George (of Sugar Land), Richard Muniz and wife Veronica (of Pasadena), Michelle Miano and husband Gary (of Arizona), Robert Muniz (of New York), Melissa Muniz (of Houston), Debbie Uribe and Frank (of Tomball). She is also mourned by her brother-in-law, John Franklin (of New Mexico), her 33 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, as well as 14 nieces and nephews. Delfina was predeceased by her parents, her two sisters, her beloved husband Santiago and her grandson, Jesse Muniz.
