Velma Louise Bugos passed away September 22, 2018 at the age of 95.
Velma was born October 18, 1922 in Crockett, Texas to Annie Lee and John Steven “Steve” Shaw. Her father was a farmer, while her mother took care of the home. Growing up as the fourth of seven children, Velma loved to dance. She grew up in Grapeland, Texas and went to school there until the eighth grade.
Velma met the love of her life, Paul, while at a dance. The two were married in Schertz, Texas, and they were blessed with 46 years of marriage, until he passed away a few months ago on April 19, 2018. Although Velma was employed for a short time at the Texas A&M Creamery, most of her life was spent with her children, Carolyn and Shirley. One of her best memories was taking a vacation to Disneyland and Carlsbad Caverns.
Velma had a great personality, and people truly enjoyed being around her. She was very kind and loved to joke around. One of her best-known sayings was, “I can’t believe I said that!” She enjoyed spending time with her family riding horses and going on trail rides.
Velma leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law Carolyn and J.B. Wilson, her daughter and son-in-law Shirley and James Wells, her grandchildren Scott Wilson, Shannon Wright, Donnie Wells, James Ray Wells, Sheryl Lawson and Darlene Benschoter. Along with several great-grandchildren.
To honor Velma’s life, her family has planned a service at 1 PM on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Evergreen Cemetery Chapel in Percilla, Texas.
