Theola Kerbow

Theola Kerbow passed away November 13, 2018 at the age of 84.

Theola was born October 28, 1934 in Jot ‘Em Down, Texas to Theodore and Lona Billingsley (Granny) Quisenberry. Theola grew up on a farm with her three siblings in Pecan Gap, Texas. Times were hard for the family during the Great Depression, especially after her father died unexpectedly. She was only eleven years old, leaving Theola and her mother alone for many years. Theola attended school in Paris, TX and graduated from Pecan Gap High School at age 15. She went on to begin her studies in accounting and office administration at Paris Junior College.

Theola became acquainted with her future husband, Odis Doyce Kerbow, in her early teens while attending a Methodist Youth Fellowship Bible study and social for young Christians. Theola and Odis began dating in 1951 while both were attending Paris Jr. College. The two were married February 20, 1954 in Pecan Gap by Bill Bowman, a Baptist minister. As a military spouse of a Naval aviator, she and Odis were stationed at Naval Air Station (NAS) Brown Field and lived in San Diego when her daughter Karen Beatrice was born. They were then stationed in Kingsville, Texas at the NAS when her son Gary Allen was born. Faith and family were the most important things in her life. Her family included her mother, devoted husband, children, and later grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church for over 10 years.

Theola worked as the purchasing manager for the family business of electronic manufacturing and engineering for the oil and gas industry. She also loved traveling with her family and friends. Her most memorable trips were to Hawaii, England, France, and Bermuda. One of her most striking features was her beautiful, thick red hair. She and Odis loved to square dance and met many life-long friends through this pastime. She also loved to collect bird figurines. Theola was a kind, loving woman who was beautiful inside and out, and was beloved by her entire family.

Theola is survived by her devoted husband Odis Doyce Kerbow, her daughter Karen Beatrice Kerbow-Dees, her son Gary Allen Kerbow and his wife Kathy, her granddaughter Amy Lynn Tobin and her husband Kyle, her grandson Allen Garrett (Duke) Kerbow and his fiancé Kaylee Clayton, her grandson Ryan Carson (Bubba) Kerbow and his wife Amber, and her great-grandchildren Jackson Edward Tobin, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Tobin, and Evelyn Grace Tobin. She was preceded in death by her parents Theodore and Lona Billingsley Quisenberry, her sisters Evelyn Johnson and Beatrice Johnson, and by her brother Louis Thomas (Buster) Quisenberry.

To honor her life, Theola’s family has planned a visitation and reception on Monday, November 19, 2018 from 1-2:30 PM at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station, followed by a graveside service at the Aggie Field of Honor in their pavilion.
