Silbanio Jimenez Hernandez Jr

Silbanio Jimenez Hernandez, Jr. passed away January 6, 2019 at the age of 49.

Silbanio was born November 9, 1969 in Bryan to Mary Rose (Sauseda) and Silbanio Jimenez Hernandez, Sr. He grew up in Bryan, Texas—an adventurous child, known to blame others for his mischief. Still, he was often the cause of that trouble. Regardless, his sisters always looked up to him, and knew they could depend on him for anything. Especially, they looked to Silbanio for good advice. He graduated from Bryan High School in 1989.

A devout Catholic, Silbanio was a member of Santa Teresa Catholic Church.

Silbanio and his wife, Veronica, have been a couple for ten years, and although they met while still in high school, it was not until much later that they dated. The catalyst of that date was Silbanio’s sister, Jeannie.

Shortly after beginning to date Silbanio, Veronica quickly fell in love with her future step-sons, Lazaro and Cassius, too. And to Silbanio’s family, it became obvious that the pairing of Veronica and Silbanio would form a large, beautiful blended family.

Silbanio and Veronica’s boys, who are David Matthew, Cassius, Lazaro, and Maximus, have always loved each other. Silbanio and Veronica were consistent in always including all boys in family plans. This included vacations, too, which special times allowed the boys’ relationship with each other, and with Silbanio & Veronica, to grow. Silbanio’s sons brought him great joy. Plainly, family time, be it at home or elsewhere, was always the most important focus in his life. And Silbanio made making or spending time with his boys a priority above all others.

Silbanio was blessed with a career he loved. He worked in healthcare for over twenty years, and loved his “work family” at Baylor Scott and White. Yet as hard as Silbanio worked at the hospital, he loved even more spending time tending to his home, his yard, his pool and to planning and going on vacations. In particular, he enjoyed vacations because they were opportunities to introduce his children to different experiences, while spending time together as a family. This past summer, he and Veronica and their boys enjoyed a trip to the Vatican in Italy. And days before his passing, he enjoyed a post-Christmas/New Year’s trip to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee and North Carolina with family and close friends. Those friends have been and grown so close to Silbanio over the years, that all are additional brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews to “Uncle Sab.”

Silbanio also loved to have guests in his home. As host, he would “DJ” with his favorite “play lists,” and swim with, dance and cook for his guests. He took great pride in also handling all daily cooking for his family, and his bride had no qualms letting him show this skill he surpassed her in! Silbanio was known for his ribs, gumbo, and pulled pork – and he adored making these in rotation for the masses as he watched and rooted for his beloved Aggies.

Above all, it is easy to describe Silbanio best as a humble, family man. He was reserved, respectful to all, and yet fiercely loyal to family and friends. And while initially, seemingly “quiet,” he became fast friends with anyone who spent time with him. He was gentle and easy going. Yet he loved to crank up the music, and have a good time. And when he was feeling really good or happy, a tell-tale sign was his infectious, quiet smile, along with the gradual lifting of the pinky finger of the hand that clutched his preferred “Jack and Coke” – which signaled that it was time to dance and start the party.

Silbanio is survived by his wife, Veronica Hernandez; his children, David Matthew Ramirez, Cassius Hernandez, Lazaro Hernandez, and Maximus Hernandez; his sisters, Mary E. Lopez, Sylvia “Jeannie” Puentes, Rosemary Garcia and her husband, Richard; his parents, Silbanio Hernandez, Sr. and Mary Rose Hernandez, his beloved mother-in-law, Rosie Acosta Alvarez, who loved him as a son, his five nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and nephews, and countless friends and loved ones of the Bryan/College Station community and beyond.

To honor Silbanio’s life, his family has planned a visitation on Sunday, January 13th from 5-8 PM, with a Rosary to be said at 6:30 PM at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan.
