Ryan Coffer

Staff Sergeant Calvin “Ryan” Morgan Coffer, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the age 34.
Ryan was a very easy going individual who was well liked, admired by many and loved by most. He was a Boy Scout, achieving the highest rank of Eagle Scout and more importantly, building a life-long relationship with his fellow members of the Blue Fox patrol. Ryan enjoyed working alongside his father with The Theatre Company. Director Randy Wilson, along with many others became family and friends for life. Ryan was currently working for Steve Larkin, his former high school principal, close friend and fellow actor.
After attending Blinn College, Ryan joined the U.S. Marine Corps, carrying the Blue Fox Patrol flag on every deployment as became the custom of a few fellow Boy Scouts turned Marine. Ryan rose in the ranks meritoriously receiving E-6, Staff Sergeant, serving as a Zodiak Fast Assault Specialist, Squad Leader, Marksman Instructor and Combat Infantryman with the 2/4 out of Camp Pendleton and later with the 5th Headquarters Company. With the 5th, he was in charge of the security detail protecting General Petraeus in Iraq.  He served three tours, one in Japan and two in Iraq receiving many commendations.  He was awarded a Naval Achievement Medal with a “V” device for valor and refused the Purple Heart before being medically retired. He felt that his true mission was to make sure his squad made it home safely. True to his nature, Ryan put duty before himself, his service to our country taking a heavy toll on his health and spirit.
Ryan applied and was recently accepted to Texas A&M, opting to sit out a semester and work. He was a contractor, doing mostly remodeling construction work and building furniture. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys and the Aggies with anyone, but especially with his “Mimi”.
He is survived by parents Calvin Dean and Lisa Coffer, sister and brother-in-law Meredith and Derek Wagner, sister Sara Coffer, and brothers Kyle and Nathan Coffer, his “Mimi”, Lucy Morgan, niece and nephew Grace and Evan, his best friend and “love of his life” Kaarina Jensen and hundreds of friends. His family would like you to come celebrate his life starting with a Celebration Gathering from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2 PM on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan.
