Rose Pavlicek Hackathorn
November 3, 1922 – February 23, 2018

Rose Hackathorn of Bryan, TX passed away February 23, 2018 at her home.

She was born November 3, 1922 in Moulton, TX, a daughter of the late Adolf and Hermina Havel Pavlicek.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her daughter Camellia Rose Hackathorn, her husband Donald Lee Hackathorn (on February 16, 2018) and siblings, Alfons Pavlicek and Agnes (Louis) Pavlicek David.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Tisdale of Rusk, TX and Marsha Matcek of Bryan TX, her son, John Hackathorn of Lake Jackson, TX, her grandchildren, Stephanie Grieves, Natalie (Eric) Matcek, Auston Matcek, Brandy (Josh) Moore, Laura Farnum, and her great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Grieves, Bryanna Grieves, Caden Perdue, Nathan Anderson, and Jadyn Smith.

Rose was raised on a farm near Praha, TX before attending nursing school. She met her future husband at a hospital ER in Houston where she worked as a RN and they were married 3 months later. They recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary, and now they will be together for eternity. They raised their children in Angleton, TX and then relocated to Bryan, TX in 1988 so they could be part of the lives of their grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a superb role model and provided many valuable life lessons to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Rose was proud that Linda Tisdale, Stephanie Grieves, and Brandy Moore followed in her footsteps and became nurses, and she was thrilled that she was able to participate in Brandy’s pinning ceremony, a rite of passage for nursing graduates.

Rose loved to sew and read until her vision deteriorated, and she was working in the yard until recently – she lived an independent lifestyle until she had a stroke. She shared her enthusiasm for reading with the younger generations and now they are avid readers. She enjoyed working on puzzles, word games, etc. and she loved her cats – one or two would often sleep in her bed with her. Rose and Don were frequent visitors to Vrazel Ballroom in Danbury before relocating.

Special thanks to Brazos Valley Hospice for their compassionate care and support and to Brandy Moore for her devotion to her grandmother.

Friends will be received from 6PM-8PM with a Rosary and Catholic Rite at 7pm on Thursday, March 1, at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan, 2301 East 29th Street, Bryan, TX 77802.
