Richard Patrick “Dick” Bruther, April 19, 1934 – July 19, 2018

Richard Patrick “Dick” Bruther, age 84, passed away on July 19, 2018.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 28, at 1:00 p.m. at the Brazos County Senior Citizens Association, 1402 Bristol, Bryan, Texas (across from Hillier Funeral Home).  A reception will follow the service.

Dick was born on April 19, 1934, in Trenton, New Jersey, to Richard Francis Bruther and Viola DeBlasio Bruther.  Dick graduated from Trenton Catholic Boys High School in 1952.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1956 from Villanova University.  He served in the United States Army for two years and was honorably discharged in 1959.

Dick came to Texas in 1960, where he worked mostly in finance in Dallas, Waco, Houston, Temple, Austin and Sherman.  In 1963, he returned to Dallas and worked for several companies until 1986.  He received a degree in Accounting in 1977 from the University of Texas at Arlington.  He belonged to the Grand Prairie Lions Club for several years.

He moved to Bryan – College Station in 1986.  In 2003, he joined the Brazos County Senior Citizens Association where he served on the Board of Directors for many years and also as President for one year. This year, he received a Lifetime Award plaque from that organization in recognition of his dedication and service.  He attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station.

Dick was friendly and easygoing.  He was a charitable person, donating much of his income to worthy causes.  He loved music, sports, his cats, his church, his college (Villanova University) and old movies, especially old musicals. His favorite game was bridge, and he excelled at it.  His health began a steep decline over a year ago, but he always maintained an optimistic attitude and didn’t dwell on his physical problems.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his sister Patricia Ann Bruther Pfleiderer of West Trenton, New Jersey, and brother Gregory Bruther of Titusville, New Jersey, and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends – especially his dear friend and soul mate Elaine Chalk of College Station, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Brazos County Senior Citizens Association, Bryan, Texas, or St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, College Station, Texas, or to the charity of your choice.
