Ralph C. Rice

April 16, 1933 — January 14, 2019

Ralph C. Rice

Ralph C. Rice went to be with his Lord on January 14, 2019. Ralph was born April 16, 1933 to Paul Edgar and Mary Alline (Taurner) Rice in Shreveport, Louisiana. Growing up with just sixteen months between him and his older brother Bob, the two were very close.
Ralph joined the Air Force at the age of 17 and retired after twenty years of service. He then went on to work for over twenty years for LCRA as a head engineer. When he wasn’t working, Ralph enjoyed fishing, golfing, operating his HAM radio, watching football, and playing the guitar. He was part of the Masonic Lodge #800 in Buda and was actively involved in politics, even running for mayor of Buda.
Family was very important to Ralph. He had a great love for his grandchildren. Christmas and Thanksgiving were always spent together, and every Sunday was meant for eating out together. No matter how ill he was, he would light up when his grandchildren came to visit and was always there when they needed him. He taught his grandchildren to love the Lord, to take care of family, to work hard for what you have, and to always be humble.
Ralph was preceded in death by his wife Sarah Rice, his parents Paul and Mary Rice, his son David Rice, and his grandsons Gary Rice and Earl Rice. He leaves behind his son Don Rice, his grandchildren Clinton Rice (and his wife Kristen), Lenae Beran (and her husband Dwayne), Debra So, and Betty Rice, his great-grandchildren Emily Rice, Katelynn Beran, Addilynn Beran, Eugene Rice, Ricardo Rice, Maria Maldonado, Marisol Hernandez, Jonathan Hernandez, Miguel Hernandez, Amanda Granados, Josephine Granados, Joe Granados, and Peter So, 13 great-great-grandchildren, his brother Bob Rice, and numerous nieces and nephews.
To honor Ralph’s life, his family has planned a visitation on Thursday, January 17 from 5-8 at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station. A graveside celebration of life will be held at 2 PM Friday, January 18, 2019 at Assumption Cemetery in Austin, Texas.
