Nita Sustaita Zgabay

Juanita “Nita” Maria Sustaita Zgabay passed away August 6, 2018 at the age of 39.

Nita was born May 29, 1979 in Bryan to Martin and Felipa (Charles) Sustaita. Her father is retired from Ray Criswell, while her mother works at Texas A&M/Compass. Growing up with seven brothers and sisters, Nita enjoyed watching wrestling and was a big sports fan and playing Little League. Although she could be a “Tom Boy” at times, she also enjoyed dressing up as a princess and organizing fashion shows with her sisters. Nita attended Bryan High School. While she could be quiet and shy at times, she enjoyed being with and spending time with her cousins and friends. Her love for reading and sports continued to grow. She graduated from Bryan High in 1997.

After graduating, Nita worked for the Bryan Eagle in the accounting department for over seven years. She decided to come back to Bryan ISD and worked as a substitute teacher for two years before becoming an attendance clerk for Bryan High. She worked there for nine years and became the lead attendance clerk, and she absolutely loved her job. She considered the people she worked with to be her second family. She was proud to be part of Bryan ISD. She enjoyed going to her once a month dinner group with her BISD co-workers and retirees.

Nita was a proud mother to her son Joey and her daughter Hailey. She was a very loving mother and always put her children first in her life. She enjoyed taking her kids to San Antonio and Galveston to see the beach. She was a very strong willed and independent woman who was deeply loved by her friends and family. Although she was quiet and giving, she was known for her sarcastic, witty humor. Her facial expressions said it all.

In her spare time, Nita enjoyed watching sports, especially the Dallas Cowboys. She was one of the most diehard Cowboys fan you could find. She loved preparing her favorite snacks for game days and watching with her family. She loved music and attending concerts. Her favorite book was Lord of the Rings. She also loved watching A Christmas Story every year. While she didn’t enjoy Mexican food, she loved a good hamburger, barbecue or some Chick-Fil-A. Nita was a proud Catholic and attended Santa Teresa.

Nita leaves behind her son Brad Joseph “Joey” Zgabay Jr., her daughter Hailey Michelle Zgabay, her brother and sister-in-law Jonathan and Flora Sustaita, her brother and sister-in-law Martin Jr. and Felicia Sustaita, her sister and brother-in-law Kimberly and Miguel Flores, her sister and brother-in-law Natalie and Kevin Hodge, her sister and brother-in-law Audrey and Jose Garza, her sister and brother-in-law Rebecca and Jose Bustamante, her brother Thomas Sustaita, and her nieces and nephews: Antonio, Ariel, Jacqueline, Breanna, Joe, Emily, Adrien, Annalisa, James, Jasmine, Selena, Ashleigh, Sierra, David, Adrianna, Benjamin, Eli, Marisa, Ariana, Julian, Joselyn, and Jenevive. She is reunited with her nephews Martin James, Jose Jr., Julio, and Jose III, and with her niece Juliet.
