Michael Andrew Paulus
July 25, 1957 ~ October 16, 2018 (age 61)
Michael A. Paulus was born in Michigan to Dolores and Andrew Paulus. His family moved him to Texas because his father's job transferred them there. Mike graduated from Conroe High School and attended Texas A&M where he earned his BS degree in Biomedical Sciences, and was a proud member of the Texas Aggie Band, Class of '79.
Starting at the Brazos County Sheriff's Office in 1981, Mike worked his way up from jailer through patrol deputy, training officer, firearms instructor, range master, armorer, and tactical team coordinator.
In 1991, he became a training specialist at the Texas A&M Extension Service, where he taught the Basic Law Enforcement Academy, the Emergency Medical Program, and weapons and explosives training, where he trained many of the local first responders.
In 1999 he became an adjunct Law Enforcement Firearms trainer for the NRA. He traveled across the country training law enforcement and military in tactical handgun and shotgun classes.
In 2000 he put his paramedic training to work part-time, responding to 911 emergency patient care for St. Joseph Regional EMS in four counties throughout the Brazos Valley. Mike also earned his MS in Criminal Justice at the University of Cincinnati in 2003.
For the past 16 years, Mike has held the title of Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for Brazos County. He used his education and experience to develop plans and an emergency infrastructure to respond to natural disasters and incidents of mass destruction.
Mike was credentialed as an instructor in all of his jobs. He loved knowledge and had a passion for teaching. Mike is survived by two sons, Andrew and Christopher. Mike was also a proud supporter of Texas A&M Football and the Fightin' Texas Aggie band. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to the Eternal Aggie Band Fund.
A visitation will he held from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Hillier Funeral Home of COLLEGE STATION with Life Celebration services to begin at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Hillier Funeral Home of COLLEGE STATION.
