Michael Joseph Holick

Michael Joseph Holick, 60, passed away December 24, 2018. Mike was born in Nuremburg, Germany on April 21, 1958 to Lieutenant Colonel Hugh L. and Rose Marie (Thomas) Holick. He was the great-grandson of Joseph Holick, the first bandmaster and founder of the Texas Aggie Band. With his father serving as an ordnance officer and later in the Corps of Engineers as a civilian employee, Mike grew up as an Army brat in Germany, Texas, Alabama, and Maryland. He moved to New Braunfels in 1970 and then to San Antonio in 1974. The second of eight children, Mike’s first job was delivering pizzas. He played football at New Braunfels and Cole High School in San Antonio. Upon graduation from Cole High School, he was offered a football scholarship to Texas Lutheran College, although he chose not to attend. He chose instead to go to the Institute of Electronic Science and studied electronic technology in College station from 1977-1979. He started working as a lineman in Angleton for the local cable company.

Mike married the love of his life, Judith Inman, in June 1999. The two first met in around 1979, when Mike was working at American Cablevision in Angleton, Texas. They rekindled their relationship in 1997 and were married in June 1999. Mike and Judy took several vacations over the years, especially west to Arizona and New Mexico in 2008. In recent years they traveled more to be with family in Angleton, Warren, and on the Gulf Coast. Loving his family, holiday gatherings and dance recitals were the best trips for Mike. Although he did not have any children of his own, he loved his stepdaughters Heather white and Christina Todd as his own. He was also blessed with nieces and nephews who loved him. His family was very important to him.

Mike was a cable technician for Suddenlink Communications. He retired in April of 2017 after almost 20 years with the company. Prior to Suddenlink, he worked at Westinghouse Corp. in College Station. He loved electronics and working with technology. One of Mike’s jobs was to insert local commercials into Pay Per View events. He had to set up for the Holyfield/Tyson fight, which was cut short when Tyson bit Holyfield’s ear. Even when he wasn’t working, Mike enjoyed technology, jumping into home computing starting with the Tandy Color Computer 3 in the early 1990s. For several years, he also enjoyed remodeling the family home, which was built by his grandfather, and other home improvement projects in general. He also loved watching football, especially the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas A&M Aggies.

Mike, who will be remembered best for his honest and kind nature, leaves behind his beloved wife Judith (Judy) Holick, his stepdaughter Heather White and her husband Vernon and children Ridley and Vivien, his stepdaughter Christina Todd and her husband Danny, his sister Susan Harmer, his brother Andrew Thomas Holick, his brother and sister-in-law Steven and Leslie Holick, his sister Diane Holick and her husband Tommy Farnsworth, his sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Bishop Fitzgerald, his sister Mary Stremmel, his sister and brother-in-law Cindy and Pete Proctor, his mother Rose Marie Holick, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to offer special thanks to Liz and Andrew Holick for everything that they have done.
