Mary Dralyn "Dray" Zwahr passed away June 3, 2019, at the age of 67.
Dray was born October 3, 1951 in Bay City, Texas. Growing up in Brazoria with her brother Carl Dane Danford, her dad worked for Dow Chemical in Freeport, while her mother was a teacher and homemaker. Dray grew up in typical Texan fashion, raising animals for the local fair and participating in Girl Scouts. She loved to be part of everything, at least at first, and so she was always off doing something. She loved school dances, riding horses, and even playing in the band in junior high. Dray graduated from West Columbia High School.
Family was very important to Dray. She loved her sons Shawn, Elliott, and Will very much, and was happy with any excuse to visit her family. She was also very close to her cousins, and thoroughly enjoyed going to all family reunions. Dray loved children and enjoyed being around other people's kids. She always wanted a little girl, and was thrilled when she got two granddaughters by marriage.
Dray's family describes her as being like a little cricket- very fast and a little feisty. A lot of fun, she was tiny, but very generous to others. She loved to give gifts to people, everything from little trinkets to big gifts. She always shopped for Christmas starting at the beginning of the year. While she worked for many years as a correctional officer with the Texas Department of Corrections, Dray's real passion was reading. She loved to read and read all the time. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and a devoted attendee of her Sunday school class.
Dray leaves behind her mother Nina Lonis, her son and daughter-in-law Shawn and LaDonna French, her son Elliott French, her son Will French, her granddaughters Morgan and Maci Boyd, her niece Staci and her husband Chris Rotello, her nephew Bobby Danford and his wife Anna, her great-nephews Clay Rotello and Frankie Danford, and her great-nieces Abbie and Sophia Danford.
To honor her life, Dray's family has planned a graveside service at Morton Cemetery in Richmond, Texas at 11 AM on June 15, 2019.
