Maria Duran

Maria Victoria Duran, 67, or Bryan, went to be with her God on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.

Maria, a generous, protective, and loving woman, was born to her parents, Jesus Martinez and Maria Cedillo Veliz, on April 10, 1953, in Junction, Texas. Maria grew up in Acuna, Mexico, helping her parents raise her siblings, Ilda, Delma, and Rosa. She sacrificed going to school so she could stay home and tend to her siblings; she had to play a mother role very young. She was a selfless woman, who even in her adult years, would go above and beyond to help the next person out.

Maria became a mother in her teen years, and did everything she could to provide for her family. Because of her experience raising her siblings, she had many good qualities of being a mother and had a maternal instinct. Maria had six children, Hector Veliz, Edward Duran, Carlos Duran, Rosa Duran, Roman Duran, and Jesus Gomez. Family was everything to Maria. Being a mother made her so happy, and she learned a lot from her motherhood. She learned to cook, which became one of her favorite things to do! She was always cooking for her family, and they loved her authentic homemade cooking, especially her tamales. They were always made with love! Anytime there were family gatherings, Maria was cooking. It was hard for anyone to recreate her recipes.
Besides her talents in the kitchen, Maria also loved to sew blankets for her "grandbabies." She was a homemaker, so she was able to spend her days babysitting her grandkids. She would spoil them with her handmade blankets that were just another gift of love from her. She loved spending time with her family, her kids, grandbabies, and great grandkids. They all meant the world to her, and they all adored her. Maria was also very proud of her jewelry collection, as well as her beanie babies and dolls collection. She collected them throughout her life and had quite a large collection.

Maria was so grateful for her family, and she was also grateful that they welcomed her true love, David Palomino, or Chapo as she called him, into their family. Maria met Chapo at her brother-in-law's house in 2004, where they became friends. But really, it was first love at first sight. Meeting Chapo that day was one of Maria's fondest memories, it was true love.

Maria was a woman of faith. She read the entire bible, cover to cover, multiple times. She prayed often, and trusted God with everything in her. Her faith was an important aspect of her life, and she thanked God for everything she had in life. Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Maria will be missed by her children, Hector Veliz, Edward Duran, Carlos Duran, Roman Duran, and Rosa Duran; her grandchildren, Natalie Perez, Gabriella Holguin, Maria de Jesus Veliz, Angelina Veliz, Carina Duran, Carlos Julio Duran, Victoria Duran, Reyna Duran, Ilario Duran, Roman A. Duran, Mateo Duran, Ray Duran, Sierra Juarez, Brianna Juarez, Ariana Gallegos, Gabriella Juarez, Alejandro Juarez; her great-grandchildren, Ariel Lopez, Michael Lopez, Frankie Lopez, Andrew Lopez, Zayla Hernandez, Laylah Serenity Duran, Alaiya Ledezma, Malia Victoria Duran, and Kamia Chargualaf; her mother, Maria Cedillo Veliz; and her siblings, Ilda Arreola and Delma Martinez.

Maria will be reunited in heaven with her father, Jesus Martinez; son, Jesus Gomez, and sibling, Rosa Betali Martinez.
