Louise Clos

Louise “Lou” Clos passed away September 29, 2018 at the age of 91.

Lou was born January 27, 1927 in Gause, Texas to Louie and Margie (Bullock) Lange. Her father was a master of many trades – a train and crane operator for G.A.T.X. of Hearne, TX, a farmer/cattleman, a carpenter, and a blacksmith. Her mother took care of the home. The oldest of four children, Lou was a caregiver – helping her mother take care of her siblings. Since she grew up during the Depression, her mother often had to help with the farm field work. Everyone had to do their part to make ends meet. Until the eighth grade, she attended school in a one room schoolhouse. Lou then attended Hearne High School until she graduated in 1942. As she grew into a teenager, she left for Austin to attend business college. Lou became employed by a Jewish family in Austin, Jeanette and Emil Sherman, to become a caretaker of their son, Darrell. The family soon took her under their wing as part of their family. They were instrumental in making her a lady and a wonderful homemaker. Their love and friendship continued throughout the years.

Lou married her husband August “Gus” Clos on September 19, 1947. They were married for 56 years until he passed away September 8, 2003. Devotion and love were shared by the marriage. The pair was blessed with three children, Gary, Janice, and Suellen. Lou was a very attentive mother and an amazing homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and being there for her kids in school. Lou made sure her children went to church and handled discipline herself before she handed it over to her husband. She loved her family and her heart belonged to her grandchildren.

An assertive extrovert, Lou liked being the commander in charge. Whenever anything broke, she tried to fix it or called her brother, Jack for advice. Everyone in the neighborhood saw her as the go-to woman. She provided daycare for kids all the way up to 1975, immensely loving all the children under her care. Lou had the rare ability to love people; she was a true caregiver with a great sense of humor. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and loved her beautiful plants. Before her husband’s health deteriorated, Lou was an active member of St. Timothy’s United Methodist Church in Houston.

Lou leaves behind her brother and sister-in-law Mike and Betty Lange; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Pat Clos of Lufkin, her daughter and son-in-law Suellen and Stephen Denis of Cypress, her grandchildren Julianne Daniel and her husband Danny of Bryan, Jonathan Clos of Lufkin, Benjamin Roberts of Houston, Emily Denis of Cypress, and Thomas Denis of Cypress. She also leaves her great-grandchildren Brodie and Landry Daniel, and a host of extended family and loving friends, both past and present. She is reunited with her dear husband Gus Clos and her daughter Janice Roberts. Heartfelt thanks go to Tricia McKinney, owner of Hands to Lend, who provided such loving care to our mother. Everyone at the home facility respected her as “Mama”.

To honor Lou’s life, her family has planned a visitation from 1-2 on Saturday, October 6, with her funeral to begin immediately after, both at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station. Interment will be at 4:15 at Gause Cemetery.
