Lillie Marcella Stos

Lillie Marcella Hrachovy Stos went to be her Lord on Sunday, March 11, 2018.
The daughter of Czech immigrant John Hrachovy and Rosalie Lidiak Hrachovy, Lillie was born in Swiss Alp, Texas; a small community outside of La Grange. She was the youngest of eight children, and was raised on the family farm. She attended school at Hostyn School, a one-room schoolhouse, where she learned to speak English, although she kept her wonderful Czech accent throughout her life.

When she finished school, she continued working on the farm until the age of 24, when she married Richard Stos and moved to San Antonio. There she worked as a homemaker, raising two daughters; Bernice and Patsy.

She greatly enjoyed taking trips back to the country, gardening, canning her vegetables, and sewing; and she was a long time member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. She enjoyed watching her three grandchildren grow up, and in her later years, she especially enjoyed her four great-grandchildren, who loved to come visit her to play, learn a few words in Czech, and climb the giant tree in her yard.

In her last months, she moved to College Station and was a resident of Bluebonnet Place, where she loved visiting with the other residents and being able to see family more often.
She was well loved by all her family and friends; and her youngest great-grandson said it best when he remarked, ‘She had a great life’.

Her survivors include her daughter Bernice Tupa and husband James; daughter Patricia Bennett; grandchildren James R. Tupa and wife Jill, Tiffanie Tupa, Elicia Larkin and husband James; and her four great-grandchildren: Joselyn Tupa, Jacob, Sarah, and Matthew Larkin as well as her sister, Henrietta Thuemler. She was preceded in death by her parents and six of her siblings as well as her husband of 45 years, Richard Stos.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 14th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 10 am with a rosary starting 10:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am. Interment will take place Thursday, March 15th at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Road, San Antonio, Texas 78266 starting at 11:00 am.
