L. Wayne Stone

L. Wayne Stone, Beloved by The Savior, his family, friends, and students, went Home to be with the Lord at 9:16 PM on Monday, June 10th surrounded by family and praying friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted for One27 Ministries to finish ongoing projects in East Central Africa and honor Wayne's legacy of love and care for widows and orphans.

Wayne is survived by his wife Judi Stone; mother Lucille Stone; brothers Joe Bill Stone, Jr. and Robert E. Stone; children Lena Rusch and her husband Justin, Kahler Wayne Stone and his wife Katy, Dusty Stone and his wife Sarah, Maggie Stone, and Will Stone; grandchildren Jewel, Summer, Cole, Jude, Chris, Titus Wayne, Stone, Bekah, Emma, and more on the way. He is preceded in death by his father Joe Bill Stone, Sr.

Wayne was born on April 20th, 1954 in Pasadena, TX. Some of his fondest memories were working on the family ranch in Crockett.

Wayne came to the Lord in high school youth group at Sunset Methodist Church. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor's in Range Science and Master's in Education.

He met his wife Judi through a mutual friend at Camp Peniel. They married and started their life together in Clear Lake, TX in 1979. His nearly 40-year career as teacher, mentor, coach, and camp director has touched countless lives.

He was a dedicated leader in the Body of Christ and active member in every church they served from Huntsville Bible Church to Grace Bible Church and everywhere in between. His time at Forest Glen Christian Camp as an Outdoor Education Director and site director was rich in relationship and sharing God through His creation.

His God given passions led him to start One27 Ministries, named after James 1:27 that states, "Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world." Through his work training pastors and ministering to widows and orphans in East Central Africa, Wayne has helped plant the gospel all over the world.

In his final years, Wayne loved traveling with his wife, being a friend and spiritual leader to his children, spending time as Papa with his grandkids, coaching BCS baseball, teaching Bible classes, and had the honor of taking his golf team to victory at the state championship.

His children say, "Dad was our champion. He never stopped fighting for us. He never gave up on us."
