Kathleen Diane Wood

Kathleen Diane Wood, 47, finished her fight with cancer and went to Heaven on May 6, 2019.
Kathy was born on May 29, 1971, in Dallas to Melvin and Susan Wood, but moved to Bryan early in life. Since her father, Melvin, owned Spare Time Pro Shop in the bowling center, Kathy had the opportunity to hone her skills on the lanes and develop a lifelong love of bowling. Kathy had a fun childhood; she loved playing and spending time with her siblings. As a teenager, Kathy developed a passion for singing in the choir and creating woodwork projects. Although she graduated as a member of McKay High School's class of 1989 in Salem, Oregon, she considered Bryan to be her alma mater having attended Bryan schools most of her life.
Kathy worked as a General Merchandise Team Leader at Target and as a bartender at Grand Station. Being a people person, she loved her work because it gave her time to interact with others. When she wasn't working, Kathy loved to cruise. Her Alaskan cruise with her mom was her favorite. She also enjoyed watching hockey and football, always cheering for the Colorado Avalanche and the Chicago Bears.
A generous and caring person, Kathy loved spending time with family and friends. Kathy instilled a passion for her teams, Star Wars, reading, and country western music in her nieces and nephews. Never judging people, she was a devoted friend who was willing to drive hours to see them. With her huge heart, Kathy was the friend everyone wanted to have. She was the kind of friend who reminded others when birthdays and anniversaries were coming up, making sure everyone felt loved. She helped everyone else raise their children and was always there to help out. She left an impression on all who knew her.
Kathy leaves behind her mom, Susan Wood, her sister and brother-in-law Mary and Wayne Desern, her brother Bobby Wood, her sister and brother-in-law Debby and Billy Hargett, her nieces and nephews Elizabeth Desern, Brandon Wood, Emily Desern Wilding and her husband Scott, Erica Ashley Desern, Courtney Wood, her great nieces Selestina and Elise Martinez, her best friend Lori Schultz and her children Nick and Jordan, and her fur babies Patrick Peyton and Casper. She was preceded in death by her father Melvin Wood. The family wishes to specifically thank the compassionate staff of Baylor Scott and White in College Station, particularly the IMCU on the 5th floor.
To honor Kathy's life, her family has planned a Life Celebration service at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station at 2 PM on Saturday, May 11, 2019. A reception will follow at Central Baptist Church in College Station.
