Karen Elise Bassler passed away September 4, 2018 at the age of 64.
Karen was born April 29, 1954 in Hazel Park to Earnest and Ann (Correll) Lucas. Her father was a milk man, while her mother was an artist who owned Ann’s Artshop. She grew up in Bryan with her brothers Kevin and Burt. She graduated from Bryan High School.
After a short timeserving in the Navy, Karen worked in the medical field. She was a hard worker and enjoyed helping others. A single mom to her son Michael, Karen was a kind, selfless woman who was happy to do without to give to others – especially her son. One vacation in Colorado showed the extent of her love for her son. She fell through the ice trying to save Michael. Luckily, everyone was ok. Her friends and family were important to her.
Karen was a lot of fun, always up for a good time. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and listening to 80’s music. She also liked getting her adrenaline going by watching scary movies and going wind surfing. She had a strong faith in God and a deep love for animals. Although Karen often jokingly said, “If it wasn’t for bad luck, I wouldn’t have any luck at all,” she always tried hard to be positive, even in hard times.
Karen leaves behind her son Michael Bassler, her father Earnest Lucas, her brother and sister-in-law Burt and Sally Lucas, her brother and sister-in-law Kevin and Margie Lucas, her nieces and nephews Garrett and Amanda Lucas and Lauren Lucas, and her beloved dog Harley.
To honor Karen’s life, her family has planned a service at 3 PM on Friday, September 14th at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station, with a reception to follow, also at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station.
