John DeWayne Matheson, 83, of Bridgeport, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021.

John, a sweet and loving man, was born on January 17, 1938, in Fort Worth, Texas, to his parents, John Melvin Matheson and Valerie Anderson Matheson. John began a career as a machinist and salesman. He worked at Bell Helicopter for many years.

John was always pleasant to be around. He was a gentle man, with a heart for others. He loved to watch animal shows and eat sweets, especially Cherry Pie and Boost Chocolate. He loved his dogs and cats, and cared for them as they were members of his family. Animals were a passion for him and he always taught everyone around him to be sweet and care for your animals. He enjoyed golfing and fishing as his hobbies. He was a fan of the Aggies and Dallas Cowboys, and enjoyed watching the games!

Family was very important to John. He loved to see his grandchildren and enjoyed every second he could spend with them. He enjoyed going on trips in his RV with his family, especially fishing trips! Time he spent with his family were some of his fondest memories.

John was a kind and gentle soul, with a big heart for everyone. He was a selfless man, who would do anything for his family. His Catholic faith was always an important aspect of his life. John will be missed by his friends and family.

John's memory will be remembered by his son, Michael Matheson and wife, Kathy Matheson; his daughter, Elaine Smith and husband, Clyde Smith; grandchildren, Marcus and wife Dianna Matheson, Randy and wife Tabatha Graham, Acy and wife Ashley Graham, Tiffany and husband Jo Dale Rater, Matthew and wife Rachel Matheson, Stormi Matheson, and Billy Easley; great-grandchildren, Shane Matheson, Autumn Matheson, Logan Matheson, Caleb Graham, Jaythan Graham, Vincent Petrie, Bryce Petrie, Seth Petrie, Acy Graham Jr., Victoria Rater, Vivian Rater, Tommy Matheson, Clifton Matheson, Scott Matheson, Nolan Parker, Kassi Littlejohn, Silas Littlejohn, and Levi Tarvin; his sister, Deloris White; and his furry family member, Rusty.

He will be reunited with his parents, John and Valerie Matheson; brother, David Matheson; and Carol Matheson.
