Jodie Simone Hurt

Jodie Simone Hurt passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at the age of 30.
Jodie was born in Houston, Texas on June 12, 1988. She grew up in Deer Park and the surrounding areas with her parents, Jo Wood and Ken Wood, and her siblings, Chris, Brooke, and Josh. Her mother, Jo Wood, was a retired ESH Manager, "the safety lady" Jodie would call her, short and bossy from the Irish decent. Her Dad, Otis Hurt III was a pipefitter from the industrial field.
Jodie was a true Gemini- waiting on a cookie one minute and running buck naked down the street the next. Growing up, Jodie was ruler of the neighborhood kids, always defending the under dogs and protector from the bullies. Jodie was crowned the "Valentine's Queen" at her first school dance in Tarkington. Jodie was a passionate animal-lover and was always bringing home stray animals. She had the opportunity to rescue a Sugar Glider, "George" we call him. George's safe haven was hiding in her neck behind her hair. In later years, Jodi found an interest working as an Electrician on the pipeline for Fiber Optic Termination and was very talented at it. Jodie was drawn to the Pipeline Industry as a Licensed Electrical Apprentice. She stumbled on Fiber Optic Termination, and as a strong and willful women, she held her ground against the best of the best in the industry.
Jodie became a mother at a young age. She had two beautiful daughters, Chellbie Jo and Margot. Her love for her daughters was enormous! She was so proud to see Chellbie as the bright, talented violinist she has become. Her challenges as a young mother were great, but her love never wavered. Jodie worked extremely hard to continue her education and scored the highest score in the county for her GED.
Jodie travelled the world with her mother; adventures snorkeling and swimming on the beaches in Aruba, watching sea turtles lay their eggs by the moonlight, feeding thousands of fish from her hands under water in the ocean, road trips to the hills of South Dakota, and her first snowball fights and skiing in Flagstaff. She loved the beach and boating. Her summer vacation plans were to go camping with her daughter and her parents in Flaming Gorge "to see what all the fuss was about!"
Jodie had a smile that would light up the sky and a personality that filled the room, she never met a stranger! She was always known to say, "Keep it simple!" Any meal was a "Banquet" meal, as long as there was enough parmesan cheese to add to it! Jodie loved listening to music, she had a taste for a little of it all. She enjoyed and was also very good at scrapbooking. Photos of her family were her most important possessions. Jodie never walked past the homeless, she never turned her head to the needy. She would always say, "I've been where you are at and it's never too late." Jodie's greatest quality was her ability to love and to forgive, including those that wronged her, those that betrayed her, and those that sacrificed her. Something she learned from New Hope, where she met her amazing friend, Jessica Bray Howell.
Jodie was survived and will be remembered by her mother and step-father, Jo and Ken Wood, her daughters, Chellbie Jo and Margot, her siblings, Chris, Brooke, and Josh, step-brothers, Kenny and Michael, several nieces and nephews, Spencer, Lily, Greyson, Tessa, Callie, and Kate, Aunt Rebecca Lynn, Cousins, Jackie, A.J., Lindsey, Donna, Jay, and (Bubba) Big Josh, her Gramma Karen that she adored, and NiNi and PaPa of Magnolia, Texas, and her father's siblings David and Cindy.
She was preceded in death and will be joining her grandfathers, Retired Master SGT Master Mason 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and Shriner Frank A. Girkin, Otis Hurt Jr., and her Father Otis Hurt III.
