Jesse Devine

Jesse was born January 3, 1923 in Houston, TX to June Rowland Devine and Jesse Devine Sr. He was raised during the depression, lived a simple life and developed a deep appreciation for all that he had. He married the love of his life Joy Elizabeth Williams in 1942, was married for 72 years before her passing in 2014. He loved his wife and family very much.

Jesse began his working career delivering newspapers on his bicycle for the Chronicle. After Pearl Harbor Jesse enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and he served his country proudly with the 427th Night Fighter Squadron in the China & Burma Theaters.

After the war he went to work for the Post Office, worked for Celanese Corporation in Deer Park, TX and worked as realtor in Green Valley, AZ.

After retirement Jesse and Joy moved to Arizona where they lived for 10 years and enjoyed exploring the wonders of the state until they returned to Bryan, TX in order to be closer to their family.

He enjoyed Joys cooking, chocolate candy and homemade chocolate pies that she would make for him every year on his birthday.

Jesse loved watching baseball (with the sound turned off), the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He was an accomplished Rock Hound and loved all things southwestern, especially Arizona. He enjoyed finding unusual rocks, cutting and polishing them until they were beautiful specimens that he would often display in their home. He enjoyed doing odd jobs around the house and seemed to have a project going on all the time.
