Jack Barton

Jack Barton passed away November 12, 2017, at the age of 67.

Jack was born January 26, 1950, in Junction, Texas, to Dale and Nila (Baker) Barton. His father, Dale, worked in construction putting up electrical poll lines throughout the area while his mother, Nila, took care of things at home. After several moves due to the construction business the family settled in Bryan in the early-mid 1950’s. Jack grew up in Bryan with his older brother Joe and younger sister Molly. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan, Jack joined the Navy. He served for four years in Vietnam and Korea, ensuring America’s freedom, before returning home. He was proud of his service to our country, and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4692 of Bryan.

After Jack returned from his military service, he worked in the Houston area for many years in commercial construction and remodeling. After his mother’s death he moved back to Bryan and went to work for Hope Lumber, which is now Pro-Build of College Station working in the window shop and later retiring as a material handler. After nineteen and a half years of work in College Station, he was able to retire and enjoy the freedom to kick back and relax with friends & family. He spent his retirement being “a man of leisure”, as he would say. He loved sports pools and watching football. Retirement allowed him the freedom to just hang out and have a beer with his friends every afternoon.

Jack had a big heart and is going to be missed by everyone who knew him. He leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law Joe and Faye Barton of Lovelady, Texas, his sister Molly Barton of Bryan, his daughter Ja’Nee Barton of Houston, his grandchildren Gabriel and Lila Perez of Houston, several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

To honor Jack’s life, there will be a visitation Thursday, November 16th from 5 to 7 pm at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan. His Life Celebration will be at 2 PM on Friday, November 17, 2017 in the chapel of Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan. His burial with US Navy Honors will follow at Rest-Ever Cemetery. To honor Jack’s legacy, please bring mementos, notes, and photos that you would like to place inside his Life Chest to share with his family.
