Henry Williams Jr.

Henry “June Bug” Williams Jr., 74, passed away early in the morning on Wednesday, November 8, 2017.
Henry was born September 8, 1943 in Bryan to Henry Sr. and Jessie Mae (James) Williams. His father worked at Allen Academy doing landscaping, while his mother worked as a housekeeper and in childcare. As a child, he grew up with his sisters Manerva and Ollie Mae and brother Earl playing basketball. He attended Washington Elementary until he left school in 9th grade. He joined his father at Allen Academy, working in the kitchen.
Henry met his wife Mary Louise Thornton while the two of them were working in the cotton fields. They married in 1961 and later renewed their vows in 1965. They were blessed with eight children from their union. Henry was able to support his large family by doing something he loved dearly, working as a mechanic. A hard working man, he worked at Watson Motors and was also self-employed.
When Henry wasn’t working, he was pursuing his other passion: music. He enjoyed being part of a band and playing in clubs. Being very musically inclined, he could do it all: sing, play piano, and play electric guitar. His favorite music style was the rhythm and blues of Al Green and The Commodores. If he wasn’t performing, he was dancing. Outside of music, Henry’s love of life could be heard in his great laugh. He was a great jokester and loved pulling one over on someone. Weekends would find Henry outside beautifying his yard on his riding lawn mower or kicking back and watching his beloved westerns on TV. Gunsmoke and Big Valley were his favorites.
Henry was a Baptist and had a quiet faith, which he passed on to his son Ronnie D. Williams (now deceased) and his wife Shirley, his daughter Sharon Thompson and her husband Duncan, his son Henry D. Williams and his wife Lisa, his daughter Vonda Pope and her husband Robert, his daughter Glenda Harris and her husband Brian, his daughter Eva Williams, his son Charles Williams, and his daughter Mable Bootye-Jackson and her husband Ray. He also leaves behind his grandchildren - Brandon Cruz, Ronnie Isaiah Williams, Ashley N. Paul (Willaims), Brittney S. Williams, Deirdra R. Smith (Williams), Samuel D. Haynes (Williams), Timothy Williams, Valencia Thomas (Williams), Ke'Asiah Williams, Anthony Williams, Ashley Williams, Kelsey Williams, Daryl Williams, Bre'Asha Williams, Benjamin Pope, Hannah Pope, Courtney Washington, Courtland D.
