Glen David Hale

Glen Hale, 67, died on July 28, 2017. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 44 years, Mary Ann; his sons, Bryan Glen (Michelle) and Robert Steven (Jony); his four grandchildren, Glen, Gibbs, Graham, and George; his parents Glen (deceased) and Jean; his siblings Susan White (deceased), Cindy Neal (Wendell), Jay (Jeanette); brothers-in-law Don, Jim (deceased), Alan, and Ed (Rachel); sisters-in-law Joyce (Bill), Kathy, Sharon (Michael) and their children his nieces and nephews; and countless friends. Few people that met him could forget him.
Work and business colleagues knew him to be fair, honest, and hard-working. He expected, and maybe demanded, a lot from people he worked with but one thing was known: he was always going to do his part. He wasn’t going to ask anyone to do something he hadn’t done before and wasn’t willing to do again, no matter how far the task was below his title.
Probably for these reasons, the line between co-workers and friends wasn’t easy to find, where it existed at all. He made friends everywhere he went. Few people can count multiple friends on every continent. From Dayton, to College Station, across Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama, to Asia, Africa, Europe, and South America, and to every other place the oil field took him, a wide swath of friends knew him to be loyal, kind, dependable, and fun to be around. He loved all things Texas A&M, especially its traditions, the Corps of Cadets, and Aggie baseball. He preferred a slow pace of life and rarely refused meeting a friend for a beer, playing with grandchildren, a hunting trip, or spending time at the ranch in Menard.
His family and friends saw all of these qualities and loved him for them. His sons learned from his daily example how to be responsible and accountable, how to treat people, how to work hard, how to be devoted to your wife, how to unconditionally love their family, and to put family first. He usually had a story for the life lessons he wanted his sons to understand. The stories usually began with something his dad or grandad had taught him, something he learned from working in another culture in some far-flung corner of the world, or from some mistake he or someone he trusted had made. But he didn’t have stories or life lessons for grieving the loss of someone you love and depend on. He was wise enough to know that there are some life lessons you have to figure out for yourself. We all miss him while we try to do that.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, with a reception to follow, all at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station.
