Fred Joseph Markowski passed away September 10, 2018 at the age of 87.
Fred was born in Bremond on March 4, 1931 to Bill and Alice (Slafka) Markowski. Growing up as one of eight children, Fred was a really hard worker. He helped his family by working on a farm planting and picking cotton. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings.
Fred met his beloved wife Evelyn and they were married in a gorgeous wedding on a very cold January day in Chicago. During their 59-year union, the two were blessed with two daughters, Phyllis and Marsha. His daughters filled his life with joy and love. His main focus was to make his family happy and to keep them safe. He enjoyed taking the family on road trips for vacation and they made good memories. He put his wife and family above all, and loved his grandchildren immensely.
While living in Dallas, Fred worked in a plant. When he moved to Bryan in 1974, he began working as a service technician for FF Vending. He enjoyed the people he worked with and made good friendships there. When he wasn’t hard at work, Fred enjoyed tinkering on machines. He was a “fix it up” type of person. He liked to work in the yard. He also enjoyed driving to Vegas with Evelyn to go gambling. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 30 years. He will be remembered for his quiet, snappy wit and his caring nature.
Fred leaves behind his beloved wife Evelyn, his daughter and son-in-law Phyllis and Dale Hayes, his daughter Marsha Parker, his grandchildren Amanda Little, and husband Jake, Taylor Hayes, Kayla Parker, and Tommy Parker, his siblings Benny Markowski, Patsy Nemec, Stanley Markowski, Ronnie Markowski, and JoAn Slafka.
To honor Fred’s life, his family has planned a visitation from 6-9 PM with a Rosary to begin at 7 PM on Thursday, September 13 at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 1 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Monsignor John McCaffrey officiating. Burial will be at Steep Hollow Cemetery.
