Erlinda Martinez

Erlinda Revilla Martinez passed away October 10, 2018 at the age of 84.

Erlinda was born July 16, 1934 in San Antonio to Ernesto Medina and Juvencia Arce Revilla. Her father was of Indian ancestry from the Mascaleto tribe. Erlinda grew up in San Antonio with her ten brothers and sisters.

Erlinda met her husband Macario Martinez when she was just thirteen years old. They eloped to Chrisman, Texas in 1947. They were blessed with 71 years and seven children together. She loved her family dearly but was strict when she needed to be. Erlinda was bold and outspoken, telling you how she felt without sparing your feelings.

Erlinda worked hard, sometimes three jobs at a time, to help support her family. She always said, “I’m
OK. Don’t worry about me, I can take care of myself. I’ve been doing it all my life.” She worked for College Station ISD for 23 years, driving the school bus and working in the cafeteria. She also worked as a monitor for the handicapped. Erlinda loved working with children and used to tell stories about the gifts and love they gave her.

In her free time, Erlinda loved spending time with her family. She loved going fishing with her husband, camping on the river with her sisters and family, and visiting her family in San Antonio. Erlinda also enjoyed crocheting hats, house shoes, and blankets for her grandchildren. She liked to pick pecans and blackberrier and bake sweets for the family. Family gatherings were her favorite, especially Thanksgiving at her home. She loved taking care of everyone she knew and loved. She enjoyed talking to everyone and never met a stranger. Her outlook on life was to be happy and live one day at a time. She was a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church.

Erlinda leaves behind her son Macario Martinez, Jr. and his wife Sally, her son Manuel Martinez, her daughter Elise Mixson and her husband Perry, her son David Martinez, her son-in-law Ernest Rodriguez, her nineteen grandchildren Margarita Villapando, Naomi Puente, Chris Williams, Rueben Randy Gomez, Ronnie Gomez, Donnie Gomez, Mark Gomez, Lynn Rodriguez, Naomi Rodriguez, Adrian Rodriguez, Lisa Halter, Jason Martinez, Manuel Martinez, Jr., Sonya Martinez, Robbie Lawhon, Donnie Martinez, Brenda Narro, Regina Davis, Nieves Adam, Martha Fuentes, Jasmine Martinez, Marissa Arredondo, and 47 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Macario Martinez, her daughter Janie Rodriguez, her son Bonifacio Martinez, and her daughter Mary Gomez and her husband Ruben Gomez.
