Erika Krueger

Erika Krueger, 87, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017.
Erika was born March 18, 1930 in Bronx, New York to Gerhard and Elisabeth (Seifert) Niemitz two short years after they immigrated to the US from Germany in 1928. Since her brother, Volkmar, grew up bilingual in German and English. After high school Erika went on to graduate in 1952 from Frances P. Bolton School of Nursing, University of Western Reserve in Ohio.
Erika married Donald Krueger in 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio. For the next three years, she followed him as he served our country in the US Marine Corps. During their marriage, they were blessed with two daughters, Heidi and Janet. They lived in Germany for five years while the girls were growing up. One of Erika’s favorite places to live was in Maryland, just outside of Washington, D.C. because she loved being able to visit all the museums and galleries there.
Erika’s career as a registered nurse was perfect for her, as she was a very compassionate person who loved people. She most enjoyed her work in a family practice office, getting to serve a wide variety of patients. She maintained life-long friendships, and kept in touch with friends from childhood and through later years. The number of Christmas cards she received each year was a testament to the relationships she built and maintained throughout her life. In here spare time, she enjoyed reading and visiting museums. Church was also an important part of her life, and she enjoyed attending services at Peace Lutheran Church in College Station.
A distant relative of Admiral Niemitz, Erika leaves behind many who loved her dearly: her daughter S. Heidi Krueger of Brooklyn New York, her daughter Janet Krueger and husband Rickey Fowler of Brazos County, her grandsons Avery Fowler of Huntsville and Kai Wallace-Krueger of Brooklyn NY, her granddaughters Alesha Zaragosa of Bryan and Lucia Finn and husband Tyler of Manhattan NY, and her great-grandchildren Ethan Zaragosa of College Station, Caleb Zaragosa of College Station, Alexander Krueger, and a great-granddaughter on the way. Erika’s Life Celebration will be held at 9:00 a.m. Monday November 6, 2017 in the chapel at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan with a reception following in the Heritage Room. Pastor Jim Abbott of Peace Lutheran will officiate.
