Emma Louise Hampton

Emma Hampton, 92, of Bryan, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 4, 2021. Emma was born on October 11, 1928, in Bryan, to her parents, August and Frances Merka. She was born at home and was the eighth child out of her nine siblings. Growing up, Emma enjoyed spending time with her siblings and helping with chores outside. She attended Rye School finishing the 10th grade.

After finishing school, she moved to town living with her older sister, Christine and her family. She went to work at Woolworth's until she met her husband, Paul Hampton. Emma and Paul got married in 1946 and were together for a joyful 52 years. Although they were never able to have children of their own, Emma still had a strong, caring, and maternal personality. She served as a parent, grandparent, and great-grandparent figure to every child within her immediate family and always made them feel loved.

In Emma's spare time she enjoyed hunting with Paul, cooking for her family, making quilts for new babies in the family, putting together puzzles, and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed taking vacations to Mexico, Yellowstone National Park, and the mountains in Colorado. Although Emma enjoyed travel and exploring, some of her fondest memories were simply spending holidays with her family in Bryan.

Emma was loving, dependable, and giving. Family was the most important thing in her life and it showed through her constant care, support, and faithfulness to those she loved the most. Emma will be deeply missed by all of her family and close friends.

All donations in honor of Emma can be made to Encompass Hospice and Smetana Cemetery.
