Elva Lee Maniord

Elva Lee Maniord, 95, of Bryan, passed Tuesday, July 11, 2017.
Elva was born December 31, 1921 to Lavenia “Obera” (Maynard) and Otho Murphy in Vernon, TX.  Traveling by covered wagon, the family moved to Edge, TX when she was 1 year old.  The second of seven children, Elva grew up working on the family farm.  In school, she was captain of the Edge basketball and volleyball teams and played baseball and tennis as well.

Elva fell in love with her husband through their correspondence during WWII.  When the war ended, they were married and were later blessed with their daughter Barbara. Elva loved being a mother and then later a grandmother and great grandmother. She was a homemaker and later worked in Ag. Communications at the Agricultural Extension Service of Texas A&M.  As a member of A&M Church of Christ, she loved the Lord and willingly served by greeting people and providing food and hugs to those in need.  She had a quick wit and a love of caring for her family and friends.  She enjoyed cooking, traveling, gardening, sewing, and playing with grandchildren.  Elva was well loved by her family and will be missed.

Visitation for Elva will be on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.  Her funeral services will be Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 3PM at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Children's Ministry or Sonshine School, both through the A&M Church of Christ, 2475 Earl Rudder Fwy S, College Station, TX 77845.
