David Karlton Dawson

David Karlton Dawson, 72, passed from this earthly life on February 2, 2019, in College Station, Texas.

David K. Dawson was born in Brady, TX, on December 13, 1946 to Lela Mae and LV Havins.

When David was eight years old, his Mother remarried to Roy E. Dawson on May 16, 1955. Roy adopted David when he was thirteen years old as his own son after David asked him to be his father.

David graduated from Lampasas High School in 1965. He enjoyed playing basketball and golf. He also loved working at the local movie theatre for some extra spending money. David grew to love to go camping, fishing, hunting, and bowling. He loved to be around family, the more the merrier! In his later years, David enjoyed watching golf, football, and Fox News.

David was married from 1965 to 1972 to his classmate sweetheart, Diane Rector. They were blessed with two wonderful sons, Barry, born in 1965, and Brian, born in 1969.

David met Dorothy through working at HEB. They married on June 10, 1980 and spent thirty-nine blessed years together. They had 2 children together, Katherine and Karl, born in 1985. Ten lovely grandchildren were added to their family.

Raised as a Christian, David entered RCIA in 1988 and became a Roman Catholic during Easter of 1989. He took the name Peter at his Confirmation. David and Dorothy had their marriage blessed with the Sacrament of Matrimony September 9, 1989 at St. Catherine of Siena in Austin, Texas. David served his church as a Hospitality Minister and Knight of Columbus. He also served his Community on the Channel Oaks Board until illness prohibited his activities.

David loved life, family, and friends. He was social, willing to help, and always teasing others. His work was just another way to meet and serve others. David would go out of his way to meet and talk with everyone, always offering assistance as needed. His life revolved around his family and consistently called and visited everyone, making sure they all knew they were loved. Although he was challenged with health challenges for the last twenty-three years of his life and knew his body was failing with heart disease, he did not let it get him down and kept the family laughing with his antics.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Lela Mae, his father, Roy, his brother Dorman, and his grandson Conner.

David leaves behind a family that loves him very much: Dorothy, his wife of 39 years, sons Barry, Brian, and Karl Dawson, daughter Katherine Wilkinson, their spouses and 10 grandchildren.
