SGT Charlton Franklin “Chuck” Clayton passed away December 18, 2018 at the age of 34 while serving his country on active duty with the Unites States Army.
Chuck was born and raised in College Station. Born on October 27, 1984, to Robert Hugh and Deborah Lynn Clayton, he was the oldest of three. His father Robert was a pharmacist, while his mother Deborah was a caregiver. Chuck was actively involved in sports throughout his childhood and played linebacker for the A&M Consolidated Tigers. He spent years working the concessions and eventually became a manager at Cinemark theatres. After graduating from A&M Consolidated, Chuck went on to receive his Bachelor’s of Science degree from Texas A&M in 2013 in University Studies.
Chuck had been married for a time. He met his former wife in 2007 and they married in 2011. Although they divorced in 2018, their daughter Addalynn Michelle remained the center of Chuck’s world. She was definitely a daddy’s girl, and the two spoke on video chat daily.
Chuck was very proud of his service in the Army and the Texas Army National Guard. He served as a sergeant E-5. He was a forward observer, and served as a county auditor and Brazos County Deputy Constable. A true military man, Chuck enjoyed serving our country and helping others. He was always the person to go out of his way to say “hi” and speak to a friend, even if it meant pulling them over in his squad car. He cared deeply about others, always helping a family member or friend, even if it was an inconvenience to himself. When he wasn’t working, Chuck enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles and working out. He enjoyed guns, hunting, and spending time with his daughter Addie and his friends. He was always a lot of fun, and really loved to play practical jokes and watch cartoons. His favorite number was 61, because that was the channel of Cartoon Network.
Chuck leaves behind his daughter Addalynn Michelle Clayton (5), his mother Deborah Lynn Clayton, his sister Brianne Elizabeth Clayton Leggett (32), his brother and sister-in-law Robert Patrick (29) and Holly Lauren Clayton (28), and his grandmother Helen King. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Hugh Clayton.
To honor Chuck’s life, visitation will be held from 5-8 PM on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Hillier Funeral Home of COLLEGE STATION. The funeral service will begin at 2 PM on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Christ United Methodist Church with interment and Full Army Honors to follow at the College Station Memorial Cemetery.
