Carroll Murphy Brunson

Carroll Murphy Brunson passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the age of 92.

Carroll was born December 12, 1925 in Groveton, Texas to Henry Clinton and Jessie Leonard Brunson. Growing up with brothers Leonard, HC, and Curtis, Carroll’s father was the sheriff. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston in 1941. When he was 18, Carroll enlisted in the US Army and served in the US Army Air Corps from 1943 until 1946 as a navigator on B25’s and B28’s.

It was while he was a teenager that Carroll met the love of his life, Martha Jane Tabor. They were married June 17, 1944 in Caldwell, Idaho. Altogether, the pair were together for over 75 years. During their marriage, they were blessed with five sons. In the 1960’s, he started working with the Texas A&M Oceanography Department. He was on loan to the US government for 10 years working on a special mission off the coast of Africa. After retiring from Texas A&M, he worked for Dynacon.

Carroll was a kind, considerate man who was friendly with everyone. He was very outgoing and liked to entertain people. He was a member of the Wheelock Methodist Church and a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge, Patrick Lodge #359 in Franklin.

Carroll is survived by his wife Martha, his son and daughter-in-law Richard and Patricia, his son and daughter-in-law James C. and Cathy, his son David, his son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Jeneane, his grandchildren Sean, Robert and Trena, Carolyn, Abigail, Molly, great-grandson Parker and brothers Bob Brunson (and wife Marsha) and Bill Brunson (and wife Alice). He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leonard, HC, and Curtis Brunson, and by his son Charles.

To honor Carroll’s life, his family has planned a funeral service to be held Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11 AM at Wheelock United Methodist Church.
