Dr. Wright was born in Keokuk, Iowa to Charles R. and Clara James Wright. He grew up in Carthage, Illinois, on his parent’s farm with his two siblings, Arnold and Harold Wright. Arthur’s jobs included working on the farm, raising pigs, and road construction. He raised hogs to put himself through college.

Dr. Wright graduated from Carthage High School in 1957. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1961. He received a Master’s degree from Southern Illinois University in 1962 and went on to receive a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Missouri in 1970.

After receiving his Ph.D., he moved to Texas, where he started a career as a Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas. He served on the faculty of Texas A&M University in the Ag Economics Department. He helped to develop the Real Estate Research Center and was a founding member of the Bryan/ College Station Apartment Association. Upon retirement, he began a second profession managing real estate properties. In his free time, he enjoyed singing with the Barbershop and Gospel Quartets.

He married Nancy Lucasey of Carthage on August 21, 1960. Arthur and Nancy attended high school and college together. They shared 58 years of marriage and belonged to the First Christian Church, where Dr. Wright was an active member who served as a Chairman of the Board, Elder, Elder Emeritus, and as a member of the choir.

Dr. Wright is preceded in death by his father Charles and mother Clara, mother and father-in-law Elizabeth and William Lucasey, and two older brothers Harold and Arnold. He is survived by his wife Nancy of College Station, son John and his partner Troy Gilbert of Austin. The Wrights have twin grandchildren, Katie and Randy Wright, 10 years old of Austin Texas.

Dr. Wright loved hard work and in his retirement, he discovered a love for genealogy. One of his most memorable trips was traveling around the world to places such as China, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, England, New Zealand and the Canadian Rockies. Dr. Wright enjoyed life, laughter and parties, and he always knew where to find the cheapest gas in town.

The family is indebted to Texas Home Health Hospice, Vicky and the caregivers of Right At Home, and in particular to Debby Hargett for her unwavering support and care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the First Christian Church of Bryan.
