Annabelle Lee Miller Bryant went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. She was born July 16, 1931, in Houston and lived on her mother’s 80 acres in Carlos, Texas, which her mother sold for $10/acre so the family could move to Bryan in the depths of the Great Depression.
Annabelle graduated from Stephen F Austin High School in Bryan in 1948, and attended McKenzie Baldwin Business College. She immediately accepted a job in the Agronomy Department at Texas A & M where she represented them in the Cotton Style Show and Pageant in 1950 on Kyle Field.
She was rapidly blessed with the opportunity to work for Brazos Varisco, one of the most influential men in Bryan in the 1950s until his death in the 70s. She was his only office staff, responsible for accounting, managing the staff that maintained the real estate, and eventually leasing the real estate. She always said that she “grew into that job”. It has been said that she could get almost anything done in Bryan because she worked for Mr. Varisco and because of her strong personality. After his death, she was the boots on the ground to manage the estate with Mr. Varisco’s son-in-law only coming from San Antonio about twice per month. She worked for Mr. Varisco and his estate for over 30 years.
She “retired” for a while but re-entered the workforce and was employed by the Greater Brazos Valley Builders Association. Once again, Annabelle was extremely comfortable interacting with men in a business setting. She planned their monthly meetings, the Annual Home Products Show, and Parade of Homes. She enjoyed traveling to annual conferences and meeting executive directors of other home builder associations.
She enjoyed dancing, traveling, cooking, dominoes, playing cards, finding a good bargain, and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dee Alfred and Annie Mae Miller, her brother Clifford Miller, her husband of 10+ years, Carl Bryant.
She is survived by her son Cliff Bryant and his wife Melissa Bryant, a sister Virginia Castleberry, three grandchildren: Kaylee, Sarah, and Preston; three step-daughters: Kelly Bryant Morrison, Vicky Lynn Frierson-Hinze, and Carol Jean Frierson-Conlee, numerous friends, nieces and nephews.
To honor and celebrate Annabelle’s life, her family will gather to greet guests for a visitation from 11:30 am -12:30 pm with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 12:30 pm followed by a celebration reception at Hillier Funeral Home of COLLEGE STATION on Saturday, November 3, 2018. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.
