Warren D. Tenney

Warren “Scooter” Dolton Tenney passed away December 28, 2017 at the age of 83.

Warren was born on October 5, 1934 in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Warren William and Jena (Brown) Tenney. His father was a teacher and later in life owned an office supply store. Warren was very interested in genealogy. He was a life member of the Tenney Family Association and purchased life memberships for each of his children. Warren and his sister Karen were raised in the Rio Grande Valley, in San Benito, Texas. As a child he pulled lots of pranks, using his ingenuity. During high school he worked for Charlie Gilbert as a soda jerk and in his father’s store until he graduated from San Benito High school. Warren attended Texas A&M University until he was drafted into the Army. After serving two years in the Army, he returned to Texas A&M and finished his degree in electrical engineering, graduating in the class of 1956.

Warren met the love of his life, Helen, when he was in kindergarten. They were lifelong friends who did not date until college. The two were married in 1954 and were blessed with three children: Scott, David, and Nancy. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before Helen’s passing in 2015.

When Warren was not working as an electrical engineer, he was working on his hobbies. His favorite pastimes were pawn shopping, attending and working gun shows and spending time at his deer lease with special friends. He was a proud lifetime member of the NRA, and had extensive knowledge of the history and production of guns. He was a member and an officer of the Houston Gun Club for over 30 years. He was also a hunting safety instructor for Texas Parks and Wildlife and was active in Boy Scouts with his sons. Another passion of his was rock tumbling and jewelry making . He made beautiful jewelry for himself and Helen. He was a member of the Houston Gem and Mineral Society. He could often be found in his impressively outfitted garage, inventing, building, or improving something.

Warren leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law Scott and Deb Tenney, his son David Tenney and girlfriend Terri Templeton, daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Tim Adams, grandsons Brandon and Brent Adams, niece Denise Pierret, and cousins Ginger Brown and Gene McWhorter.

To celebrate Warren’s life, his family has planned a celebration of life service to be held at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 2 PM. A reception will follow, also at Hillier Funeral Home in the Heritage Room. Warren’s ashes will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas on March 24, 2018.
