Rita Perez

Rita R. Perez, 81, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017.
Rita was born February 4, 1936 in Caldwell, Texas to Joe and Sofia Rodriguez. Her father Joe was a farmer while her mother took care of the children and the home. Growing up in Burleson, Texas, Rita learned how to drive a big truck to help with the farming. She grew up in a very large family, with five brothers and five sisters to play with. Having ten siblings, Rita came to love taking care of people naturally. Rita was blessed to have met her best friend Rosa Maira when she was 13 years old. They remained close throughout their lives, going dancing and taking trips together.
After graduating from high school, Rita married and had two daughters: Sandra Alicia and Debbie Perez. She loved being a mother and taking care of her beautiful girls. After her divorce, she worked hard as a single mother and went back to school to become a registered nurse. After passing the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners, Rita went into pharmacological management. When her parents and her daughters became ill, she was proud to be able to provide care for them. After their passing, she continued to care for them by making sure their graves were well tended and had flowers at least once a year. Everyone in the family knew they could count on Rita to help take care of them.
Living alone for so many years, Rita was a very private person and not dependent on anyone else. She was known to be a bit thrifty, managing her money very well. Rita was feisty, and she loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed family get-togethers, especially with her nephew Rudy in Austin and her nephew Frank Rodriguez. Every holiday she made sure to spend with family. Her Catholic faith was very important to her and she took her family with her as often as possible to St. Joseph Catholic Church. She loved gaming with her church friends. When at home, the TV was usually on, because Rita liked watching the Dallas Cowboys and many other sporting events.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents; her daughters Sandra Alicia and Debbie Perez; her five brothers Joe Rodriguez, Celenstiano Rodriguez, Jesse Rodriguez, Manuel Rodriguez, and Frank Rodriguez; her five sisters Nesasa Alderete, Mary Duron, Petra Duron, Lillie Yanis, and Josephine Adams. She leaves behind Rudy Rodriguez Sr., Rudy Rodriguez Jr., Giovanna Rodriguez Garcia, Alesha Ramirez, Justine Rodriguez, Dorothy Rodriguez, Leonardo Rodriguez, Mariana Rodriguez, Iuyana Rodriguez, Freddy Rodriguez, Rudy R. Rodriguez III, and Frank Rodriguez Jr. To honor her life, there will be a visitation for Rita at Hillier Funeral Home of College Station on Sunday, December 17 from 5 to 7, with a Rosary to be said at 6:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, December 18 at 1 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Monsignor McCaffery officiating. Burial will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.
