Pedro Hinojosa Jr., 80, was born on November 5, 1936, in La Grulla, TX, and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 22, 2017. Pedro was a graduate of La Joya High School and Pan American College. Pedro served in the Army National Guard of Texas, Specialist Four, from 1959-1962. He married Amparo Solis Hinojosa on June 23, 1963.
He was an English Literature teacher at Zapata High School for over 30 years. He was adored and remembered by his students as a jokester and caring mentor. Pedro and his wife moved to College Station, TX in 2004 in order to be closer to family. He was a stranger to none and friend to all. He lived a life full of hope and faith. He devoted many hours to praying for others and serving the Lord in many ministries throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pedro Hinojosa Sr. and Eva Flores Hinojosa; sister, Hilda Solis; and son, Gerardo (Jerry) Hinojosa.
Pedro leaves behind his loving wife Amparo Hinojosa; children, Lily and Roger Martinez, Marla and Sotero Ramirez; daughter-in-law, Raquel Villarreal; six grandchildren, Cynthia Hinojosa, Therese, Elizabeth and Marla Martinez, Sam and Peter Ramirez; and siblings, Edelmiro Hinojosa, Adolfo Hinojosa, Eva Chapa, and Filomena Alaniz.
A time for family to receive friends will be from 5-8 pm on June 23, 2017, at Hillier Funeral Home in College Station, TX. A Rosary will be recited at 7 pm. A vigil service will be held in Zapata, TX on June 25, 2017 from 5-9pm at Rose Garden Funeral Home. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 10am, June 26, 2017. Interment will follow at Zapata County Cemetery, 642 FM 496.
