Patsy Lynn Layton

Patsy Layton passed away January 6, 2018, just 4 days shy of her 58th birthday.

Patsy was born January 10, 1960 in Odessa, Texas, in Ecton County to R.L. “Jack” and Pauline Carter. Although she grew up in a large family with nine brothers and sisters, she was especially close to her sister Rose. They could often be found riding bikes or walking together. When they had a little extra pocket money, they would walk to the store together to buy a candy bar and a Coke. One day Patsy didn’t have any shoes, but that did not stop the sisters. Rose piggybacked her through the snow to the store to buy their treats. When the store manager called their mama, the two were grounded. They spent a lot of time talking about their dreams for the future, and often went to the movies. Once they got to Crocket High School, the pair participated in Girl Scouts and went to summer camp. She loved listening to music.

Patsy was blessed to have met and married the love of her life, Carl Layton. They were married in the Tarrant County Courthouse on August 21, 1989 and were together for 31 years. Their children Melissa, Shane, Bob, Mandy, and Gary meant the world to her. Patsy was a very loving person with a caring personality. Her family was the most important people in the world to her, and she always put them first. She did the same in her work at Hudson Creek Alzheimers, where she did laundry and housekeeping. She loved interacting with the people there and caring for them.

Patsy and Rose continued to be close as adults, going on vacations together. Once the pair went camping at the river in Texarkana. When the weather changed and a storm blew in, they put their kids in the camper while they braved the storm in the tent. They thought they were dry until they woke up, realizing the tent had flooded, and then tried to get out. Patsy loved flower gardening, going to the pond to feed the fish, feeding the deer, and searching for new recipes to try out.

Patsy was blessed with a large family. She leaves behind her husband Carl Layton; her children Melissa Stickel, Shane Green, Bob Green, Mandy Nichols, and Gary Layton; her sisters Brenda Spahn, Michiel Dvorak, Rose Carter, and Judy Patterson; her brother Troy Carter; Sister-in-law Dorinda York; her grandchildren John Ziegler, Miranda Stickel, Bryce Jordan, Isaac Stickel, Brandon Stickel, Brenton Jordan, Angel Green, Autumn Layton, Hunter Green, Paula Layton, Maci Green, Barrett Layton, Tristan Layton, Lexis Green, and Hayden Green; her great grandchildren Lylian Holeman, Jacob Johnson, Tyahna Jordan, and Aiden Johnson; her nieces Jeanene Macias, Wendy Sloan, Angela Clayton, Shannon Broseh, Kristi Dunn, Ashley Gonzales, Hannah Patterson, and Alexandria Carter; her nephews James Barrow, Jody Posey, Christopher York, Jason York, Troy Carter Jr, Eddy York, ad James York; her mother-in-law Ginger Melton; and her Grandfather-in-law Jim Hearon.
