Maurine Dana

Maurine Elizabeth Dana, 68, passed away on September 6, 2017 at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Maurine was born on January 22, 1949 in Brazos County to Floyd and Mary Dawson. One of six children, Maurine grew up to be a sports fanatic. She enjoyed playing baseball, especially pitching. She also loved the outdoor sports of water skiing, camping, and hunting. She graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in College Station.
Maurine met her husband John through her cousin. Although they began dating as a means to make another girl jealous, they ended up falling in love and were married November 22, 1967 at her parents’ home. They were married for over fifty years.
Maurine was previously employed by AOC, Botco, and Praxair as a bookkeeper for thirty years. She was a friendly, loving woman who liked helping others, but she knew how to put her foot down when needed. She was part of a softball league until the age of forty. She enjoyed coaching little league, cutting the grass and doing yard work, and especially finding good deals at garage sales. She always looked forward to her yearly two-week road trip with her mother and sisters to tour the U.S. She wanted to visit every state.
Maurine was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Dawson and her sister Emily Bishop. Maurine is survived by her husband of over fifty years, John F. Dana, her step son John F. Dana, Jr. and his wife Linda, her mother Mary C. Dawson, her two sisters Kathy Dawson (Lang Smith) and Ronda Mosley, her two brothers Floyd Dawson and David Dawson and his wife Helena, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her four-legged friends “Panda” the Australian Shepherd and “Miss Kitty” her 25 year old cat will also miss Maurine. Maurine’s life celebration will begin with a visitation on Monday, September 11, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan. Her funeral service will be on Tuesday, September 12 at 1 PM at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan, followed by internment at College Station Memorial Cemetery.
