Mary “Teeny” Anderson Wicker

Mary Evelyn (Anderson) Wicker, known to her friends as “Teeny”, passed peacefully to take her place in Heaven on January 26, 2018, at the age of 91 years.

She was born on August 3, 1926, in Taft, Texas, being the first born of Rev. Norman and Mary E. Anderson. In 1928, the family moved to College Station, Texas, where Rev. Anderson was called to be the first permanent minister of the A&M Presbyterian Church. She was educated in the A&M Consolidated Schools through her graduation from high school. While there, Teeny participated in most offered activities and achieved excellent scholarship status. She graduated with a degree in Psychology from the University of Texas in Austin. During those years she worked as a laboratory assistant, served for 2 years as the senior advisor to the students in the all-freshman Littlefield Dormitory, and held the office of President of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Her favorite honor at U.T. was selection to the Mortar Board.

Her married life ended in Littlefield, Texas, with the death of her dearly loved “Jack” Wicker, a highly respected local banker. There she attended the Presbyterian Church where she played the organ and served twice on its Session. In Littlefield, she was deemed “Woman of the Year” by the Chamber of Commerce, was the second woman allowed to join the Rotary Club International, and became President of the Caprock District of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. Following her husband’s death, she returned to Bryan, Texas, to tend to her mother and joined the Covenant Presbyterian Church in College Station. She enjoyed music, church work, and crafts.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, a brother, Norman Anderson, M.D. and his wife, Pat.
She is survived by her brother, Fred G. Anderson, M.D. and his wife, Carol; her step-children, Tom and Sandi Wicker, Helen Wicker, John and Priscilla Wicker; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A special appreciation is expressed for the numerous years of loyalty and excellent care given to “Teeny” and her mother by Lupe Ruiz, L.V.N.

In lieu of flowers, donations in “Teeny’s” honor can be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church in College Station.

Funeral services to honor Teeny will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in College Station with burial to take place in Littlefield, Texas.
