Charles Mack Scanlan

Charles “Mack” Scanlan, 73, went to be with the Lord on August 23, 2017.
Mack Scanlan was born on December 14, 1943 in St. Joseph, Missouri, to Paul Webster and Gladys Maxine (Harris) Scanlan. One of four children, Mack grew up in Cameron, Missouri, playing football and doing farm work. He bucked bales, hauled hay, and worked in a clothing store to save money for college. After graduating from Cameron High School, he went to Emporia State University in Kansas for a year before transferring to the University of Missouri in Columbia. He received his bachelors of science degree then went on to get his Veterinary Medicine Degree. Unfortunately, after getting his DVM, Mack developed an allergy to cats, so he went back to school to get his PhD so he could teach. He was a professor and retired from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine.
Mack met his wife Glenda Carol Ellis on a blind date in Columbia arranged by his brother, Mike. After a year courtship, they were married at the Newman Catholic Center on Campus. They were married for 44 years and were blessed with a son, Matthew Paul Scanlan. He counted the days his son and granddaughters were born as the best in his life
A quiet man with high integrity, Mack loved knowledge. He enjoyed traveling the world, and was blessed to be able to do so. He spent three weeks in London and Scotland. He was able to go to Switzerland with his son Matthew when Matthew was in high school. They also toured Germany, Italy and Paris. Mack enjoyed touring Civil War battlefields and other historical sites with Matthew. Because he believed so strongly in knowledge, he spent two summers in Afghanistan helping to rebuild the veterinary labs. One of his passions was reading and learning about genealogy and his family’s ancestry. Mack aspired to travel to Ireland for an ancestry research project. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Lion’s Club and many professional veterinary associations.
Mack leaves behind his beloved wife Glenda, his son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Karen Scanlan of Allen, his granddaughters Maddie and Lauren, his brother and sister –in-law Michael and Tappy Scanlan, his sister and brother-in-law Mary Anne and Walter Jones, numerous nieces and nephews, and his sweet Sheltie “Sadie”. He will be deeply missed. A time for family to receive friends will be from 12PM-1PM on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1PM followed by interment at College Station Memorial Cemetery.
