John Wayne Easley Sr.

John Wayne Easley, Sr. passed away January 9, 2018 at the age of 77.

John was born on September 10, 1940 in Fouke, Arkansas to John Cecil and Rosa Lee Easley. His father worked as a logger to support the family, while his mother took care of things at home. Growing up, John was the oldest of four children. He played baseball and basketball throughout his childhood. He also was an avid reader. He attended Genoa Central Public School from first grade all the way through his graduation. He then studied business administration at Colorado Junior College in Pueblo, Colorado. John served six years in the Army Corp as a cleric. During this time he received a sharpshooter badge for his rifle work and an expert badge for his marksmanship.

John was blessed to find his true love in Suu Nguyen Easley. They met at St. Thomas Aquinas catholic Church in College Station and were married at St. Justin Catholic Church with a reception at Kim Son in Houston. For their honeymoon they traveled to Colorado and New Mexico.
For twenty years, John supported his family by selling schoolbooks. He loved this line of work because he loved books. After he and Suu were wed, they bought a corner store and ran it together for seven years. Integrity was very important to John. He was grateful for life, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his sons John and Eddie. John liked sitting down to a dinner of hamburgers and beans and cracking jokes.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers David Lee and Phil Easley, and his grandson John Cecil (J.C.) Easley. He leaves his wife Suu, his son and daughter-in-law John Jr. and Kim Easley, his son and daughter-in-law Eddie and Melissa, his grandsons Jared and Jesse, his granddaughters Miranda, Hastings, Keighly, and Arianna, his sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Joe Bittle, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be missed.

To honor John’s life, the family has planned a visitation at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan on Monday, January 15 from 6 to 8, and a funeral service on Wednesday, January 17 at 1 PM at Hillier Funeral Home of Bryan. Burial will be at Tryon Cemetery at 3.
